If a user is looking to get into the mainstream of 2D editing, they will usually choose PS (how they get it is their business ).

I myself use PS7, and I love it. I just don't have the patience to learn to use Lightwave or 3DSM. Photoshop was an easy to learn type of deal, there really isn't much to it once you learn the basics, it all comes to you easier.
