This was posted on the GameFAQs forum which basically says all of this years top games(Mario,Zelda,Star Fox,Metroid) are all cover-ups for the same games but way better....Here's the idiotic post:

Ofcoarse you know that this year, Nintendo announced they are making completely new first party games. But as of now Nintendo is releasing the "BIG4", in a very short amount of time.
I was thinking to myself today...."why would Nintendo release its greatest franchises so soon? to be number one in the software war? just to say that they did?". I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER. Its because Nintendo has better games coming out next year than this year.
Just think about it, NINTENDO ALWAYS IS WORKING ON GAMES, they just dont tell the consumer what they are. Just think of the possibilties next year has in store:PD0,Pokemon,FF CHRONICLES,F-zero,Mario Kart,Golden Sun,etc. my point is that if nintendo wasn't working on new games then the big four would be better!THIS IS WHY MARIO HAS "bad" GRAPHICS AND LINK IS CELL SHADED.

Right.. so, the games that the big N spent a HUGE amount of time on to perfect, could've been better, but they worked on OTHER games, instead of the ones most people bought the GameCube for?

well if its true and the Big4 games are crap games (while there are great) that would mean we would get even greater games. ( in my mind it makes sense...)

Well, they might have a sequal to Zelda on the GCN...they made one on the N64...
