If you haven't heard of this, its basically MTG with another mechanic where your creatures have "speed" (levels 1-4) which basically means your slow clunky characters can't directly attack/defend against fast agile creatures.

If I no longer play MTG, why would I want to play this? Is this one of those games where you pay for virtual "packs"?

90% sure you can, although I haven't thoroughly investigated that. I wish MTG had a better virtual representation, as I would much prefer to play that. Duels is Garbage, and so is MTGO. Hearthstone revolutionized the TCG/CCG virtual experience I think, and this one does a fair job at doing that as well.
