Human-animal genetic hybrids, no Beasty.

How are we coming along in the human-animal hybrid area? I'm not talking half-human half-animal, furries, or anything like that.
Let's just say someone doesn't like the shape of human teeth, but loves, say shark teeth. He gets the genetic change, and the only thing that changes is his teeth, which simply re-grown as jagged and shark-like.
Or, another example, someone dislikes the feel of human skin, so they get snake or lizard alterations, so that they have more of a scale texture.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who's thought of this, since it was in an episode of Batman Beyond (I just now remembered) and the Beastmen from Gurren Lagann came awfully close to the idea.

It would likely take us to the Age of Immortality, before we get this kind of science going, but is there any news on it? Also, discuss what animal you'd like to have an alteration of.
As said above, I'd love the shark teeth, and I've love some cat's eyes.

inb4 stolen ideas, God's rage, and "gtfo Skurai".

We evolved from monkeys, why would we want to go back?

I suspect it would be difficult to modify specific body parts, since an animal, as a collective, is a system that is designed to function with itself. You would have to do some pretty hefty engineering most likely, and at that point, why not just create something completely new?

Ever read The Amazing Spiderman? In many cases, they used animals as a way "regenerate body parts", the most well know being The Lizard. It's both helpful, but also it can make us look awfully neat.

Because that would put us in the War Zone, soon enough. The new creations would figure they were better, and rebel. On the other hand, their would be some crazy side-effects from the altered humans, so the same thing might happen.
I just like it for the idea that we could, more or less, make ourselves look however we want. Maximum customization!

If you have to basically rebuild and re-engineer the part from scratch to make it compatible with the new system, you may as well make improvements to it while you are at it.

But will we be able to have our own conscious in these enhanced bodies? Otherwise, I won't be able to have shark teeth.
