Chapter 1
A boy, eleven year old, blue eyed blond
haired kid named Liam, is sitting on the old rusty swing set in his back
yard. He sees the sunset in the distant and it reminds him of what has
happened in the last two years. It seemed like yesterday for him, the
new disease called the Xien started spreading around the world. In the
next few months the world turned into a giant war zone, many of the old
capital building lay in ruins in cities near where he lived. Though, he
and his mother are one of the few thousand left in pockets around the
world.“Liam, will you please come in!” says Liam’s mother.“Yeah, I’m coming in
soon enough, so don’t worry.” Liam says fiercely
to his mother.
“Geesh, I’m trying not to worry here alright. I don’t know what’s
crawling around here at night.”
Liam almost forgot about how the
Xien likes the dark. Because of the pollutants in the air the sun always
has a purple flash of light when it gets close to the ground. The Xien
use it to know when it’s safe to come out and attack the Humans
settlements that are left.
Suddenly the sun gives off the purple
light. Liam hears the Xien coming out of the holes they dig to sleep in
during the day. Only one of these Xien knows that Liam and his mother
are still living in that house. He sneaks along the wooden fence that
surrounds Liam’s backyard.
“Payback will be mine,“ he says in his own thoughts.The Xien jumps over
the fence and attacks Liam in front of Liam’s
mother’s eyes.
“Liam, NO!” The boy’s body is bundled on the ground. Liam’s mother runs
over to him and carries him into the house. The next couple of days are
in pain and agony for Liam. His body is changing but his mind isn’t
changing. The mental agony the Xian experience is worse than that of a
person who feels alone and without anyone else. Liam’s own mind is like
that for the days he is changing.
Chapter 2 Days after Liam
finally recovers he is walking along the lake in what
is left of the
park near his house he sees someone laying along the beach. He’s
careful of walking to close of what it may be. Suddenly he hears the
friendly call of a girl he knew.
“Liam! Wow, long time
no see, literally.”“Yeah, some things
have happened.”“Like?”“Well I got attacked
by a Xian.”“Wow!”Liam notices how
Sarah looks for the first time. She has a light
brown hair. Her eyes
are a shade of blue that almost looks like steel. Liam then asks, ”Why
don’t you come with me, we have an extra room in my house.”
“Thanks.”“No problem”They walk hurriedly to
get back before that sunset. Liam sees
something that Sarah
doesn’t.
“Sarah,
something doesn’t seem right.”“What is it Liam?”“Well, I think I see a
fire where the house should be.”“I see it now too.
Liam, I don’t think it’s a good thing to go to the
house. I heard
from in another city that there’s a place we could stay, a refugee camp.
Heck I think there’s even a pickup point in the city near here. I think
we should go there.”
“Ok lead the way.
Though where should we stay at night?”“I was thinking of
staying the houses. The Xien can’t seem to be able
to go into modern
houses very easily.”
“Alright then lets go
then. You lead the way Sarah.”Every night for the
next three days Sarah and Liam walk five miles
and find a house to
camp in. They would watch the sun set to make sure they would get in on
time.
“Liam what is that?” says Sarah pointing to a back spot in the
cool blue air.
“Well whatever it is,
it’s flying at us!”The black spot in the
sky grows into a green helicopter that circles
around them. Liam
notices the markings on the helicopter to be from the army. Then the
helicopter lands, the people powers down the twin rotors. One of the
guys from inside the helicopter walks out the back hatch to meet Sarah
and Liam.
“Hey you over there, do you guys need a lift to the pick
up center near here?”
“Sure.” They say
together.The next
twenty minutes are filled with a mindless buzz from the
blades of
the craft.
“So what happened that you guys are without someone else
besides you guys?” The pilot asks in a calm voice.
“Well, my mom got
killed by a Xien, I think from the size of the flames that encircled
the house,” Liam says with a tear on his eye.
“Same thing happened
to me to,” says Sarah.“You guys must have
been wondering for days, you were heading in the
opposite direction
from the point.”
“Wow we never knew that, but thanks for picking us
up.” The next thing Liam new was that they were on the ground again and
that they were heading towards a larger airplane.
“I haven’t seen a
plane that big before have you Liam?”“I know, I’ve seen the
passenger jets fly by my house but nothing
this big.”
“Well
let’s just get on it and get the heck outta this place.” After a long
wait the finally get onto the plane. Liam asks Sarah, “where is this
plane going to?”
“Personally I don’t know but lets hope it’s far
away from this place.” “Agreed.”
Chapter 3After ten hours Liam
finally feels the plane touching down on the
runway.
“Sarah, wake up.”“Huh, where are we?”“I think were on the
sea or someplace. I can see the ocean from a
window but I don’t know
that much either.
“Well alright then. I
guess we will find out soon.”Little to their own
knowledge they had landed on and island far out
in the Conic Ocean.
The island itself was used beforehand as a vacationing spot. If the
building weren’t there it would have been a beautiful island with the
many types of trees, but because of the development the island was
filled with many tall high-rise building near the beach with barely to
any forest left.
Liam and Sarah leave the plane to find themselves
in a throng of people. Liam looks up and sees the light blue-sky
overhead.
“Well
lets try and find a place to sleep at,” Liam says.“Yeah, I think inland
there’s more houses without anyone in them. I
never liked the
beaches anyways. Too much sand.”
“Ok then lets get
moving then.”After
a couple of hours of searching they finally find an unused
house.
The house looks like it needs some repairs done to the exterior but it
was a good condition.
“Well Liam I think this should be the place,
it’s in a good condition and it’s far way from the beach enough for me.”

“So what now then? We could look around to see what’s actually here on
this island.”
“That’s a good idea then, I think there’s areas where
we could go and work at. It would be a good idea to go and look there to
see if we could get any money for here.”
Sarah and Liam start
walking in a direction and after a while they notice no one else is out
and around in the area. Sarah notices a sign in the distance. As they
walk closer she notices that the sign reads: BEWARE, military
installation is located beyond this point.
“Liam I don’t think this
is the way back towards the beaches, actually I think this way goes
toward the middle of the island.
“I agree with you there. So lets
head the other way, this place is creeping me out.”
Sarah and Liam
walk in the other direction till they finally see where other people
are. Liam sees a large building and asks Sarah, “Is that where we should
go?”
“I think Liam, people said it was toward this direction but
I’m not so sure myself.”
Sarah and Liam walk over to the building
and go inside. They gaze at the many stores located in the building.
Liam goes and looks at the sign that hangs of the ground.
“ Sarah, I
think there’s a school here. This sign says its located on the 3rd
floor, well all of the 3rd floor I guess too.”
“I guess we should go
up there and see if we could join it soon. Well, I’m saying this
because I always like to learn and I think it would help us a lot along
the way.”
“Alright
I guess it could hurt us at all.”They walk up to the
3rd floor and see if they could find who runs the
school. After 30
minutes of walking they finally find what looks like to be an office.
They knock on the door and the person inside says, “Come in.”
They walk in and find
who they were looking for.“Hello there I’m Mr.
Smith how may I help you?”“Well we’re looking to
enroll in the school.”“Ah, just got here I
bet? May I have your names please?“Liam Hildegard.”“Sarah Jones.”“Alright then, you’ll
begin school tomorrow then.”Liam and Sarah walk
out of the office in an utter joy on their faces.
So then they
decide to look around at the building to see if they could find a job.

“Well Liam if we get jobs, it means we wont have that much time for
seeing around the islands.”
“Yeah, though I was thinking if we
switched each day we worked during the weekdays that we would see the
island. During the weekends we don’t have to work.
“That sounds like a
very good plan if I could say for myself.The next two to three
hours were used to look around the building for
a job. Before the
left they decided to meet at a certain time and place to get back home.
As they walk home Liam starts talking about the places he seen.
“I
can’t believe the amount of stores in that building, I think I counted
at least one hundred on the 1st floor only. I think I found a job to
work at.”
“Where?”“Well it’s the main
security place of the island, they’re short of
people to work for
them. When I applied for the job the manager said I was accepted onto
the job and to see me next week.
“Great Liam. I also got a job too,
though it’s not as exciting as yours, but it’s at a clothing store. I
have the opposite days as you to work so it is not a worry.”
Chapter 4The weeks went on with
Liam and Sarah. They got some money to help
fix up the house. They
were only a little bit there with the amount of money needed.
“Liam
what should we do, by the time we get the needed money it would be like
two years from now.”
“Yeah, we should just forget about fixing up
this place. It would just take way too long.”
Liam had explored over
half the island by that time; it was mostly jungle throughout the
mountainous part of it; the rest was urban area or the military base.

“I think I want to see it a could get into the base. There might be
more info on this island that we think.”
“I want to come too Liam.
I’ll check to see if I could get a day or two off to get inside of the
base.”
“Alright
then. I should have the week off next week anyways.”Unknown to them the
military had been searching for them for weeks on
end without a
result. They want Liam because of the fact that he survived a Xian
attack.
An hour later Sarah had ran to her work place and asks if
she could have some time off. The manager says, “Sure, heck I don’t care
much, ill just get someone else to work for the time your gone.”
“Thank you sir.”She walks home
thinking, “Something’s up, I know it is especially
when you manager
just gives you a week off.”
“Sarah what’s up? You
look confused about something.“Yeah Liam I kinda am,
I got the week off, but that’s not that its
about. Its because the
manager said I could. It should have been the boss who said. I’m
suspecting that the military has something to do with this.”
Just
that moment soldiers knock on the door of the house. Liam opens the door
expecting there to be someone he knows but to his surprise it’s the
soldiers.
“Sir, your requested by the General of this island for a
lunch. She has to come too.”
“Ok? So this is why we
were given the time off I guess?”“Yes.”Liam and Sarah walk
for at least two hours before they come to the
edge of the base. It
looks on the outside just a small house. But its look is deceiving; the
building is just the main elevator to get to the base. The base itself
is one mile underground.
“So this is the base?”“No, This is just the
lift to get to the base,” says the soldier.“Ah I suspected it to
be that, nice hiding for it though.”Liam walks onto the
elevator and waits for the soldier to start it.
Once started Liam
feels the sense of weightlessness enter his stomach.
“Liam I don’t feel so
good.”“It should
end every soon. I think its warming up in this tunnel.”Indeed it was warming
up in the tunnel. The lift stops suddenly like
it had begun. The
General was waiting on the platform for them.
“Hello there Liam. I’m
General Walker and I was the one who invited you to this here base. I
know you may have some questions but let me guide you around the base.

Liam and Sarah are in the middle of the whole base; so the General
called up a hover cart to transport them around. After a couple of hours
they had gone through the whole base except one area; that area is
where they’re doing top-secret experiments. The General walks up to the
lab door. Liam asks, “What’s behind that door?”
“Liam, we called you
in here because in reality you’re the only one besides Sarah that can
go through the transdimensional rift that we can create in a small craft
in space. We may be able to find a cure for the Xian.”
The general
hands Liam the files over the ship. Liam looks over the plans.
“Sir,
are you mental! No way am I going in a small craft that barely can
withstand going to space than going through something that’s like a
black hole and surviving it! Will you allow me to make modifications to
the craft? I want to at least survive a crash landing.”
“Liam since
you’re the one piloting the craft, you can modify any part of it with
please.”
“Thank you sir, though may I ask one thing, how many men
have you lost with this design?”
“Ten. Ten men total, one got lost
in space. Three didn’t even get into space. Another just stayed one the
planet and then four didn’t make it through the rift. The last one
crashed on the surface of the planet and died.”
“Sir are you sure I
would make it back to this dimension?”“I wouldn’t guarantee
you would even make it to the point where you
could jump.”

“Well, I think I can make the probability increase for the rate of
working. You might have to rebuild the ship.”
“I already planed for
that to happen. We haven’t started building it yet. Neither will we
build it in till you design it. And by the way you guys we’ve moved you
guys into a new barrack built just for you two, so you guys wont have to
worry about having to wake up at five o’clock in the morning.

“Thank you sir,” says Sarah from behind Liam, “we’ve been trying to get
that little house fixed up ever since we’ve moved onto this island.”

“Well since the last guy we had about got thrown off the base because
of sleeping in we decided to just build the barracks for your guy’s
living quarters. Heck it even has its own kitchen and stuff for you
guys.”
“Now lets get to business. So how are we going to explain
this to our bosses at out job?”
“Already explained, told them that
you guys had some family on the base and would like to stay with them
for a couple of months.”
“Ah, good explanation,
we never told anyone if we had family or not.”Chapter 5Weeks after leaving
their home Liam finally says he’s done with the
design. He rides a
hover cart over to the General’s office to drop off the design. He
knocks on the door and the general says, “Come in.”
“General sir, I
got the design finally done. It should handle reentering atmospheres and
going through the rift. It can hold up to 10 people if needed.”
“Ah
good work there Liam, if you where a soldier you would already have my
job by now.”
“Sir
I want to tell you all that’s needed for it.”“Well son what is
needed?”“It needs
titanium oxides and a steel-titanium alloy to survive
through the
rift. The design makes it more of a transport ship instead of a fighter
but I have a solution to that problem-“
“Well what is it
then?”“Like I was
saying, we could have some auto cannons on the outside
with a
M.A.C. cannon for fighting in outer space against the Xian star
fighters.”
“Crap son you’d need a power source used in a military
sized transport.”
“That’s why I downsized the power supply from a
transport sized space- ship. The power would still equal the needed
amount but its size would be hundreds of time smaller.”
“Dang son,
now that’s a lot of power in that craft. I’m glad I choose you to design
this ship.”
“I just want to survive that’s all. Heck if we could we
could relocate all the humans we wouldn’t have to deal with the Xian
anymore.”
“Liam that’s the thing. Xian already developed
inter-dimensional travel. Their original world got overpopulated so they
had to develop this technology to soothe the overpopulation in that
dimension.”
“So in turn we have to find a way to kill the head Xian
or seal the dimension off and kill the Xian, which would just send them
to other dimensions. One thing's for sure I am not choosing the second
choice. I hate Xian and I just want to personally kick ever one of their
little butts out of this dimension. I would choose being shot in the
eye than getting bit with one of those freaks.”
“Well what about me
then sir, I was bite and I survived.”“You’re special Liam,
your not one of them and neither are you a
human. Your just one of a
kind.”
Liam and the General walk over to the foundry to watch as
the ship starts getting built. The outline of certain parts form in the
molten mass of metal.
“Sir, its amazing how
this foundry works isn’t it?”“Liam telling the
truth, I have no idea how the ship is built. All I
know is just that
I pay money in and I get a ship out. To me its like one giant vending
machine but this one takes more than just spare change.”
Liam and the General
laugh as they walk away.Chapter 6The next couple of
days are used in assembling of the ship’s parts.
The heat deflectors
are installed for reentry into the different atmospheres.
“Liam are you sure
this is going to work,” asks Sarah.“Sarah I’m betting my
life on this machine, it has different
armaments to help protect us
during the flight. Heck, there’s an energy shield generator I designed
being installed on it. That thing will even protect us in reentry. I
even installed the heat shields just for protection in case we loose all
power in the system. I installed different system in case of
emergencies, like with a power outage; the ships engines will redirect
the air automatically downward. The ship floats even if there is a hole
in the side. There is also a camo generator onboard so I’m not in much
worry.”
“Liam in still very worried though, we’re going into a
different world, unexplored from our view and we have to try to find out
about the indigenous people and other information about the world.
Maybe even how we got here as humans.”
“Yeah, I think we
should just not worry right now.”More weeks pass with
the ship being built. Liam and Sarah are put
through different
training to orient themselves with controls of the ship. Once done with
the training they take the ship through different procedures like
reentry and acrobatic manovers. One day after flight proactice Liam
walks up to the General and says, “You know about the shield system in
the ship?”
“Liam I seen a design of a generator I haven’t seen and I
suspected you made something to help protect you guys.”
“Yeah, with
the shield there isn’t any need of armor plating, but I wont go without
the heat deflectors, the ship would disintegrate if the power went
out.”
“Very good thinking, that’s how one of the pilots died was
because of the heat deflectors failing. He tried to eject in reentry and
was burnt into ash by the time he hit the troposphere. Its one thing to
tell a family member that their son has died but its another thing to
say we don’t have a body for burial.”
“That’s a pain a guess, so
tell me how’d it end with telling the family member?”
“More than
just a pain I got slapped in the face like a volleyball and I still
think I have the scar from where the ring was.”
“Ouch.”“So Liam what ever
happened to your parents?”“Sir, my father died
in a car wreck when I was four years old. My
mother might be out
there somewhere looking for me.”
Silence followed that last
statement. Liam walks away with a feeling of almost guilt of saying
something about his mother. The General also has a sad feeling in his
heart. He walks into his office for the list of names of who is living
on the island. He looks for Liam and finds his last name, and then he
looks through people with the same last name and only finds Liam on the
list.
“Hm,” he thinks, “his mother should of came here unless the
Xian are holding her captive somewhere. If they are holder her captive
then it’s the first time in the history of the Xian to hold a person
captive. Liam might be important to the Xian in more ways than what I
think.”
What the General is saying is the fact, Liam’s mother is
being held captive in the Xian’s own dimension. They are expecting Liam
to come charging in to say her, but the true is that Liam has no idea
where his mother is or if she is alive or not.
