Yes Man
When I first heard about Yes Man, I just assumed it was another Jim Carrey comedy. It looked alright, but not overly enthralling. However, when I finally broke down and saw it this past Friday, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Jim Carrey plays a humdrum loan officer who skirts everyone after a failed relationship. While doing so, however, he misses out on a lot that life has to offer. Then, after attending a self-help seminar, he is transformed into a courageous and outrageous individual that just cannot say "no" to anything.
Yes, it's not a total aversion from Jim Carrey's traditional comedic role, but he definitely does a lot of serious acting in here. I'll admit it, it's funny and he does some of his silly and zany acts, but he really (in my mind) establishes himself as a pretty good serious actor in this. I know he's done some other films (like some horror one), but this is the last one I've seen of his films since Bruce Almighty. I give this touching story of self-discovery and the struggle against ones inner demons an 8/10. It has some strong language so it may not entirely be appropriate for small kids, but it's mostly benign. Enjoy! |
I left halfway through the movie and never looked back.
