Sovereign's first experience with import anime.

Back a year or more ago, Geneon announced the licensing of Zero No Tsukaima (to be named Familiar of Zero). I was really excited. Long story short, Geneon closed doors and nobody else has picked up the us license for this show. I saw a dvd import sale on discountanimedvd for the series and at a pretty cheap price of 19 dollars, I bought it.

Words cannot describe how horrible the translation job is. I'll post screen shots of it when I get home from work, but they actually managed to translate Saito's (one of the main characters) name into something really weird. Sometimes the engrish just made me lol hard, sometimes it just confused me.

The dvd quality itself was pretty substandard. Fansubs have better video quality.

I'll be editing and adding to this post when I get home from work, but in the meantime, what are some of your import horror stories :p

Hmm, I'm afraid I've been lucky in not encountering such atrocities in english subtitles...

Sovereign 2008-06-30 11:00 AM
