Conflict and Compromise.
Asamin and I are doing an optional history project with the theme of Conflict and Compromise, and we are having a little trouble finding a topic for that theme.
Does anyone know of interesting historical events which features the theme prominently off the top of their heads? Thanks. |
I don't know, try anything from American history... ever?
|
Maybe the Treaty of Paris or whatever.
|
You could go for a less literal approach, and examine the discussion process whilst the Allies were drawing up the Treaty of Versailles?
Three main figures: David Lloyd George - British Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau - French Prime Minister Woodrow Wilson - American President Wilson wanted a trety based on his 14 points - punish Germany, yes, but not too hard. In all honesty, he couldn't give a fig about Europe. The war was over, the American soldiers were going home, what did America want with European problems? Clemenceau was French. Need I say more? France was raped during WWI. The damage caused was extensive. And seeing as France and Geramny are neighbours, he wanted to crush Germany until it's pips squeaked. Get the country on its knees, and you'd see no more trouble from it. And whilst you're there, get them paying through the nose with reparations (the final figure of £6,600 million was decided in 1921). Lloyd George was a mediator between the two. Whilst he didn't want to see Germany let off with a smack on the wrist, he also didn't want to see the country crippled. Three men. Three views as to what should happen. All three were in conflict (particularly Clemenceau and Wilson), and all three finally came to a compromise. --- If you'd prefer proper conflict, then there are probably hundreds of examples of two countries at war, and a compromise being decided between the two - maybe a surrender of territory to end it (another example from WWI is the Russian surrender to Germany, and the subsequent loss of a large amount of territory in West Russia to Germany). |
Actually a really good topic lenny, way to help them out.
|
Thanks Lenny and WillKill. :)
Lenny that sounds interesting, I'll bring it up with Asamin and see what he thinks. |
Read up on 1861-1865 of American History. That's a good topic.
|
Didn't Wilson's 14 points for the League of Nations get chopped down to just 1? Or am I thinking of another president altogether?
|
Only four of the fourteen points were adopted in the reconstruction of Europe after the end of WWI.
If you're interested, the fourteen points were: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourtee...ourteen_Points --- Any update on this, Atnas, Asamin? |
Yeah we dropped out. Our competitors had way much more time on their hands. Also we both have no work ethic when something is optional and we could learn more on our own without doing a gay little project against a bunch of fugly girls.
|
You never mentioned this to me. Why? i might have been able to do this. But yea. We are slackers. We would have left it to the last minute and then lost the competition. Oh well.
|
We missed all the important meetings and I figured you had read this because the forums are open to read? :P You were with me when I told the teacher we were dropping out - two months ago.
It doesn't matter anyhow, I don't think either of us would have had the determination to finish it. It's obvious I didn't have the will to start. |
This is all most likely correct. Now i need to get back to writing an essay about immigration.... sigh
|
Here's a hint: use people who have excelled in their fields of expertise and have made many advancements to science and the like - who also happen to be immigrants.
Also tell of how the country was founded by immigrants in the first place, and to this day those cultures belonging to them creates much diversity. At least, if you're pro-immigration that is. :) |
I talked about how no one would get anywhere without immigration and how our economy is based on the idea of having more than one race in the country. In short, I just made stuff up
|
.-. I used specific examples such as foreign doctors and was going to do the author of C if my essay size would've allowed.
|
I ended up getting a 60 out of 60 on it! Yay!!! my mom will be so happy.
