Eragon

Great book. The second, Eldest, was awesome too. Think the movie will be any good?

Atnas 2006-12-12 09:54 AM

Usually if a book is good, the movie is shit.

Slyvr 2006-12-13 06:53 PM

True, I saw the previews and stuff and it is defienetly not going to be like the book. The "Urgals" are freikin human...They're supposed to be horned monster things

gruesomeBODY 2006-12-14 06:42 AM

Scared to see the movie since i liked the book. The only movies that actually seemed to do the book justice was LOTR.

Slyvr 2006-12-14 07:04 AM

Ya, but did anyone read the books before they watched LOTR?

Thanatos 2006-12-14 07:15 AM

I did...

Slyvr 2006-12-14 07:18 AM

I've never even heard of them before the movie

gruesomeBODY 2006-12-14 05:15 PM

i did. Thats why i was interested in seeing the movie, especially when i heard about the cast.

Sovereign 2006-12-14 08:16 PM

This is only my third time hearing about this. One was from a discovery chan show where Orange County Choppers were building an Eragon themed bike. THe other from an old manager/friend of mine, and the third being here.

The manager said it's going to suck.

I did.

Also I read all of the Harry Potter books that were out before the first movie was released, or let alone planned.

Movies = Shit

When compared to book counterparts.

My problem with movies is the length. Most of the time they are too short for my liking.

Hard to believe people aren't reading LotR anymore.

Lenny 2006-12-15 04:21 PM

Most people will see it, think "Blimey, that's a big 'un", see the type of language used, and be instantly put off.

I think the last time I read the whole trilogy was the day I went to see Return of the King.

Slyvr 2006-12-15 06:56 PM

I saw the movie first and tried reading the book, but was like...I've already experienced this a million times in the multiple times I've seen the movie...Why am I sitting here reading it?

I got through a chapter or two and gave up in the fellowship

Sovereign 2006-12-15 09:32 PM

All movies are too short and everything feels rushed imo.

You need a nice logn series.

Because the books are much, much better. Reading (in this context at least) is about entertainment. It's a sad day when people start to write off books altogether because the "same" story is available in movie-form.

Sovereign 2006-12-15 11:14 PM

It's gotta be a damn good book for me to read it over watching it in movie form. I'm one who needs hard copy visuals to really enjoy the story.

Medieval Bob 2006-12-16 02:06 PM

I always like the images in my mind better. I usually don't even like artwork on my books. The characters always look wrong to me.

Lenny 2006-12-16 03:10 PM

Do you ever get through a book imagining a character to look like whatever, only to forget completely what they look like if you think about it, or nce you have read the book? And then magically remember how they look etc when you next pick up the book?

Medieval Bob 2006-12-16 09:33 PM

No. Once I've figured out what a character should look like, I remember until something ruins it for me. For instance, I used to have this great image of Caramon from Dragonlance as this massive person, truly a giant among men. Now, thanks to cover art, he's just a big guy. :-\

Lenny 2006-12-17 06:58 AM

Fair enough.

If they're a main character in a series, then I can remember exactly what tey look like (for example, Sam Vimes, Rincewind out of Discworld, Richard and Kahlan out of Sword of Truth, etc). But if it's a one-off book, or the only one I've read in a series, I forget what they look like. :(
