Final Fantasy XII
Who's got it/playing it right now? I went and got it at the midnight release time at gamestop(I got the collectors edition, along with the collectors edition strategy guide which kicks 100 kinds of ass.) Sadly, I can't even play it until November 12th, because Nikki's mom got it for us for Nikki's birthday but said we couldn't play it until her birthday. I tried to talk Nikki into just letting us buy it rather than have to wait until her birthday but she wanted to save the money by letting her mom get it for her.

That sucks man, I want to get it but on a University budget, alcohol and such takes precedent over anything else supreme.
When you do get to play it, let me know. I may just rent it from Blockbuster and not return it for a few weeks. |
Well knock us down with a feather. Tyran's ban has ended!!
Welcome back, old fella. |
Way to fucking spam my thread you mother fucking british piece of shit.

I roflmao at that K_A.
The game should be sweet, a good refresh of the FF series. |
Yeah, the trailers and commercail's look pretty sweet, I might pick it up tommorow or sunday woot!:D

It's very good though in parts there's a LOT of gameplay where the plot doesn't advance.

Best RPG of the series in my oppinion. I say best RPG because Tactics was the best of the series but it was a strategy game. I think its the most fun of all the games. Real time battles (Cant dodge but oh well), your timer is based on your speed and the speed of your weapons, combo attacks, combo quickenings(limitbreaks) just like Chrono Trigger. Also you gain levels + license points which is like the sphere grid in FFX. So you have your base stats + augments and whatever your armor and weapons add. It has the feel of FFXI only without it being MMO and no job classes.

What's the overall story like?
Have they stuck with a general tried and tested formula that works, or something new and different? |

Rurouni, what are you refering to? The side quests do leave off but when you progress in the main story things come together. (or so I've heard) |
My main annoyance is that when you have a "Guest" party member, you'll have to kill him off if you want to use any sort of tactics, since they always rush off into battle on their own. Also, so far, this game is a grind fest.
Overall, the game play is pretty good, and with Gambits (battle automation), all the grinding won't make your X finger (or any other, for that matter) sore. With a good set of Gambits, you can litterally just hold the controller in your left hand and guide your party through all the trash you desire with the left analog stick and not worry as long as you let your party handle the battles one at a time. Speaking of which, I love the Active Dimention Battle system. No more random encounters! You can see where the monsters are and hunt them down or avoid them (though given the pace at which the story wants you to level, it'd be wise to only avoid the truely impossible encounters). |
Maybe I'm just weird but here's my status... And Im not bored yet.
Location: Just after first REAL boss fight(judge) Vaan: Level 22 1.6k hp. Hits for around 400 with a twill blade. (Just got golden armor which boosted his defense to 20 from 9 so on the off chance he doesnt block, he takes 0 damage now) Basch: Level 18 1.3k hp Hits for like 300ish Bal: lvl 20 just broke 1k hp. Hits for 200-300 with starting rank Spear. Those are the major ones. All chars are 20+ except for basch, and they have quickenings. Gold: 152k Hunts: All up to the turtle finished. Grimores: Beast, Undead, Elemental One thing I don't like is how you cant control espers. EDIT: Oh, also this game was made to be more like a single player MMORPG it was strongly based off FFXI. So yeah be prepared to either grind 1 shot mobs for LP or level up alot. I started up a second game and I'm not having any trouble without doing all the grinding I did in my first game. |
