.DAT .AVI help.....
I am downloading a HUGE file(V for Vendetta-movie).It is 600mb+ in size. The only good and secure download I had found is in the .AVI and .DAT file format. For some reason,it won't play the movie in my .avi,.dot,ect. player. What do I do?I don't wanna wait another 6-8 hours to find one in .mpeg or somthing. How do I play a .avi or .Dot file as a movie?

I know windows media player can play AVI type files, but I've never heard of it playing any .DAT files. You might have to search on google for a file converter that can convert DAT files to the appropriate file type that can be played.

This happened to me, I think you need the updated codecs for wmp... If your'e using that.

Well first off, if you're downloading a rental from some website, they provide any information (and codecs, I assume) to view the movie. If you're not downloading it legally, this isn't the place to talk about it.
If you still can't view it, make sure you have the codecs to view the file. Try the k-lite codec pack. It's got just about everything I need. Configuring it can be a bitch, but everything usually works okay at default. Also, I'd reccomend media player classic over standard windows media player. |
Sometimes the player itself can reject the codecs, which I find really strange. It happens to me regularly with the Windows Media Player, and has happened on occasion with WinAmp. Be sure to try playing the movie with VLC, the, in my opinion, best video player around:
