Car question.

WHy is it that everytime someone turns off a car engine there are those little popping sounds for a bit after. What are they?

I'm pretty sure it's the engine cooling down but I don't know much about cars.

JRwakebord 2005-08-06 11:30 PM

Yah, I think that's the engine cooling down.

Its the metal cooling down. When the metal heats up all the molecules move faster and it causes the metal to expand. The popping noise is the metal cooling down and going back to its original state. Or so I believe.

Tee Hee. Your engine gets shrinkage.
