Warrior build.

Im going to try and level a warrior. Looking for a good build to go from 10-60 ASAP. I was thinking of going into arms but really I have no clue how to build and level a warrior. For gear is it Strength>Stamina or the other way around? Is agility 3rd on the gear list? I was planing on going 2h Sword is that a good idea for leveling?

Tradeskills are going to be Mining/Armor Smithing

Axes > Swords, I know this much. But it's hard to find good 2 hand axes usually.

Axes > Swords because of the mastery. 6% crit vs 6% extra attack. The 6% crit on axes is more beneficial because it can be applied to specials, where the extra attack isn't.

As far as builds.. crap if I know.

kockblocker1 2005-06-27 06:54 PM

Ahh thats something I didn't know. So Axes then.

Anyone else?

DW Fury is fastest for levelling, actually.

Axe spec is also 5% addition to crit, not 6%.

GEEkZ 2005-06-27 08:51 PM

Definitely go axes, the 5% extra crit is much more beneficial than 6% chance at extra attack. As for which stat to prefer over others, you need to hit 5k HP unbuffed with stamina, 950~ attack power with strength and enough +crit/agility items to hit 25-27% crit chance in berserker stance. This is of course at level 60.

For builds you have a few choices (the talents might not be exactly as listed as this is off the top of my head):
Arms/fury Mortal Strike - This build concentrates on quickly dealing 2.5-3k damage in very little time (you can usually pull it off with MS crit, followed by a normal attack crit and execute).
Talent distribution:
Arms
2/5 deflection
3/3 improved rend (prereq for deep wounds.)
5/5 tactical mastery (this is a must no matter what build you use)
1/1 anger management
3/3 deep wounds (this will help against rogues a lot, and is a prereq for impale)
2/2 improved overpower
1/2 improved charge
2/2 impale
5/5 2 handed weapon specialisation
5/5 axe spec
1/1 sweeping strikes (prereq for MS)
1/1 Mortal strike
Fury
5/5 cruelty
5/5 imp demoralising shout
1/1 piercing howl
3/3 blood craze
1/5 imp battle shout
5/5 enrage

This is your basic cookie-cutter mortal strike build. It also favors using a high damage weapon (like arcanite reaper). It's the favored build for many warriors and I've used it up to 60. PvE wise, there isnt much of a problem with this build until you hit MC, due to the debuff limit. PvP wise, if you have a healer backing you, there is no bad match-up.

If you have any questions or want me to explain other builds, just post here, and I'll do my best to answer them. Hope this helps.

Yes it does. Thanks for all the info guys.

Do you use any macros for weapon switch for shield bash? What types of Mobs would be ideal grinding materal? I am used to cloth class grinding, what would I be looking for while playing a melee class?

GEEkZ 2005-06-28 02:08 PM

Switching from 2-hander to 1-hand/shield is a waste from my experience. Pummel (berserker stance ability) does the same thign as shield bash and doesnt require a shield equipped and since pummel and shield bash are on linked cooldown timers pummel is more efficient.

Ideal grinding material for warriors is anything with low armor, usually caster-type mobs because you can interrupt most of their spells and take little damage from their melee.

Are there any "must have" equipment for warriors? I know all Prests/Warlocks/Mages make it a point to go to SM in their 30s and get an Illusionary Rod. I still see 60s walking around with it. What are the easy to get, everyone has, kick ass equipment for comming up warriors?

Vollstrecker 2005-06-29 11:38 PM

Here is a comprehensive list of decent Macros to make, nifty UI addons and whatnot that our guild Main Tank (and probably most competent Warrior) uses.

If you need help Tanking in any real way, Geekz would know quite a bit (and I do too). I assume you know that Sunder Armor is your major Aggro holder while Revenge works very well also. Taunt is used to get mobs off of other characters, and just get back to work on generating Hate. I also hear that Heroic Strike actually generates more than normal Hate, so if you need a Rage dump, go for it. :p

So I'm starting up a warrior and I'd like to know what talents to get sub-40. At 40 I'll probably respec to get mortal strike, but I'm not sure what to go until then.

Vollstrecker 2005-07-08 03:35 AM

I hear Fury is very good for levelling up, but as to specifics, I've only played a Warrior to 33.

I'm not an expert, I just know a few things.

ask_rabber 2005-07-10 01:31 AM

What talents did you use to 33? Right now I have 5 points in cruelty and that's it, not sure where I should go from there.

Vollstrecker 2005-07-10 04:36 AM

I've begun down the Arms tree, for the typical Mortal Strike build.

I'll edit in my current talents in a few when I'm done grinding up my Tailoring on my old Main.

Build at 33:

Arms
Deflection 5/5
Improved Rend 3/3
Tactical Mastery 5/5
Improved Overpower 2/2
Deep Wounds 3/3
Impale 1/2

Fury
Cruelty 5/5

Level 24 right now, goin for a build the same as that so far. At 40 I'm definitely gonna respec for mortal strike though, then buy up some good plate equip and go do some battlegrounds. Have only killed 2 horde so far, and that's cuz they started it. Otherwise I've only died from people 20 levels or higher than me. Havin' quite a bit of fun right now, been partying with a mage and druid friend of the same level and questing with them.

Vollstrecker 2005-07-12 05:00 AM

Yeah, Warriors are great fun instancing. I love the tank role, and it gets hectic sometimes when tanking multiple baddies.
