Doom 3

Well I just got done playing some D3. I played for an hour or two and my cpu runs it like crap. At some points the FPS was so horrible it just made me want to quit. I had it on 640x480 on lowest settings and it was alright in 60% of the places, but the other 40% it was pretty choppy and bad. My specs are 2.0 p4, 512 ram, geforce 4 ti 4800. I thought I could at least get medium quality since thats what it suggested I could do but its still bad. The game itself was overhyped in my opinon, its a pretty fun game, and it is scary at times (esp on the harder difficulty rattings). Example would be in a dark room I double checked to be clear, I go up the stairs half way only to have some devil creature burst out of the stairs/cement right in front of me o_O . Anyway, it feels like a regular shooter except for the graphics and maybe the physics engine. I dont like how when you kill a monster it disengrates right in front of you, leaving no corpse to play with :( . The story itself is pretty good from what I have seen so far, it has mildly drawn me in. The gameplay is hmm standard shoot em up with the scare factor built in. I have not tried multiplayer but I have heard its not that good either. This is more of a first impression / what I think so far. After 2 houres, I dont know if I will even finish it or go back in but thats because I hate the fps I am getting. Anyway, anyone else who has played it so far; share your thoughts.

iceman887 2004-08-02 08:01 PM

i'm probably not gonna get it, my computer might run it a little better since it is like a 2.1-2.2 and i have a 9600 pro, it cost too much for me to get anyways, 55 dollars geez

tokill.ace 2004-08-02 08:02 PM

Demosthenes 2004-08-02 08:05 PM

My computer won't run it. I'm going to wait until it comes out for Xbox.

Medieval Bob 2004-08-02 09:22 PM

512mb of ram isent that much, if you look at it, (ausmeing you running XP) by the time its started up and shit, you already are using about 100 to 125mb of that ram witch leaves you with a meer 400 give or take a few mb. or so ram to run games on. when i game says "i need 512mb of ram Minimum!" then it need that amout of ram, just because you have 512 dosent mean the game is using all of it. and the second anything switches too your vram, (uses hardrive space) shit slows down alot! now if ya had... say 1gb of ram, then it sould be more then enough ram to handle the games ram req..

now since i barely know what im talking about im going to shut up, i will review the game once i done downloading it.... till then, sit tight...
*waves*

Well, this should be interesting.

1.4 GHz, 256 MB ram, GeForce 2 MX-400 (32 mb). It runs Far Cry. Care to guess whether or not it will even start Doom 3? :)

zeal311 2004-08-03 11:41 AM

zeal311 2004-08-03 02:29 PM

Just bought it and it runs decent on medium quality. Choppy at times but overall pretty smooth. This game is scary as a bitch though.

Sovereign 2004-08-03 02:47 PM

Installing.....

^_^

Sovereign 2004-08-03 04:02 PM

Don't even try. I'm running on 64 megs. IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS!!! Its choppy nearly 24/7, but nowhere near the point that it would get annoying. THe only time I lagged was when 3 zombies, out of nowhere, decided to jump me. Shortly after their heads were plastered ala shotgun shells to the wall. Holy fuck. I agree with zeal. This game is pretty scary. Much of it is anticipation as well. Those corners can yield many suprises...

Alas, lag was my doom. Out of nowhere, from a place I had just cleaned out, a zombie attacked me from behind. The one second lag was enough for him to deal the fatal blow. The death scene is pretty cool, how it just fades out.

Just...wow..

iceman887 2004-08-03 06:41 PM

o i have the same birthdate as Kidagakash, weird now i know like 4 or 5 people with the same birthday but on topic, did u buy it for 55 dollars?

Sovereign 2004-08-03 06:56 PM

Sorta. I spent only 40 in cash. THe rest were traded in used games.

RoboticSilence 2004-08-03 07:14 PM

I think the minimum bearable CPU speed recommended was 1.7 Ghz.

undeadzombieguy 2004-08-04 07:19 AM

I think it was 1.5 ghz

anyway, I just played this game and even though its at 640x480 with lowest quality, it still looked great! The suspense is awesome I really like the way they scare you with all those monster just appearing out of nowhere and then when your screen suddenly turns red, and well I'm not going to spoil it. ;) GG
