Punching Bags -- Suggestions

I am thinking about buying some punching bags and getting into boxing with my friends.

I weigh 130 lbs, 5'6, moderately strong.

What size/brand/whatever should I be looking for?

Oh jeez, I don't know much about punching bags, but I do have one of my own. You want a relatively speaking large and heavy bag, not some pussy coushin to hit. Honestly, they are all so durable, that you should probably just go out and get the cheapest one that is like 100 pounds heavy or so.

Alright.

Thanks ;)

Try filling a large pillowcase up with rocks. Now thats a punching bag.

My friend has a kicking/punching bag.. Its quite fun, but, make sure you get one that has a good durable outside leather/material, and sand in it, or something inside of it... Dont get one that stands up, because you'll need about 10 sandbags to hold it down. Atleast that what it takes when i punch it.

I have a nice one, Its a bit sall for the place I have it at but its got a chain holding it up to a raffter and 2 rubber bunggies hold it to a eye hold on the cemment floor. Made of leather filled with what I think to be lent. makes for a good time. only problem is I have snaped the chin twice allready, and the damned thing hurts when it falls on your feet.

water bags are good too if your into boxing its the best for practice and it gives you a good workout.. and for anyone who doesnt know what a water bag really is please shut your ass

Now that was a little hostile, wasn't it?

Any boxing is a good workout. Even DDRE is a good workout :P

Just a tad hostile. I really need to start boxing...I've already been called the mini Mike Tyson. (No, I didn't bite someone ear off.) I'd have to say a heavy bag, you know the kind that you can hang from your rafters and is taller than a person...I know...such a vivid description. :p

HandOfHeaven 2004-07-19 08:28 PM

Great description. You want to get one that is nice and solid (heavy), and doesn't fly back a lot when you hit it. And yes, your best choice is to get one that hangs down.

Why not just mummify one of the dead gators from the backyard and hang it from the cieling? (get it? he is a cajun, and proud)

Why get a punchin bag when there's walls all over the place? Or just go kill a homeless person, always helps me to vent my anger.

D3V 2004-07-20 03:27 AM

My friend has a punching bag I use all the time before we spar. I believe its 75lbs and it gets the job done fine, though I wish it were a little heavier. I'd recommend wearing some kind of hand protection while doing this, you don't wanna tear your hands up. And don't do something stupid like hold your thumb in your hand while you punch, it'll just break your thumb.
