WoW 9th RACE ANNOUNCE!!

Taken straight from blizzards website, www.blizzard.com

"It’s official: Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce that Two-headed Ogres are now a playable race in World of Warcraft, our upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Giving two separate players simultaneous control of a single body, this new race introduces a unique cooperative gaming experience never before attempted. See them for yourself in this exclusive preview, which includes the first available screenshots and an exciting first look at the innovative new game mechanics. Current beta testers should expect to see this new content added in the coming weeks.

By selecting the Two-headed Ogre race, you are selflessly choosing to share your existence in World of Warcraft with another player. That is, you are staking claim to one half of the Ogre whole. As a Two-headed Ogre, you will have control of one head and one arm at all times. Your other half will be controlled by a second player automatically and permanently paired with you upon character creation…"

Aren't you just a tad bit stupid for posting that as an announcement?

Haha, good ol' Family Guy.

Anyways, that sounds pretty cool...there is a pretty high chance of getting screwed over though. :\

I thought this was real atfirst... till my cousin told me it was an april fools joke lol

iceman887 2004-04-03 03:34 PM

did blizzard make that picture? how long did it take, just for a april fools joke?

RoboticSilence 2004-04-03 03:41 PM

You can tell it's fake because screenshots don't generate blur at any speed.

WetWired 2004-04-05 09:46 AM

Some games have "motion blur" as an effect, how do you know that this isn't one of them?
In any case, you could tell from the way that it was added to the character races screen and the fact that this would be an absolute customer service nightmare for Blizzard:
"Hello?....No, sir, I cannot change your partner assignment on your two headed ogre...no, there's nothing I can do, sorry, goodbye."
"Hello?....No, mam, I cannot change your partner assignment on your two headed ogre...no, there's nothing I can do, sorry, goodbye."
Continue ad nausium.

I actually had a lengthy conversation with a friend on the whole issue (if it were to be implemented). There are only a few changed that need to be made for it to be effective. As well, upon launch, one could simply make 5 two-headed ogres, (if 5 is the character max per server... possibly 10) and play the one with the partner whom you believe is the least retarded.

Anyhow, I was mad that it was an April Fool's joke. This could have really been a great innovation, but Blizzard just managed to piss off a lot of people.

Acer 2004-04-06 07:48 PM

I honestly think it would of been stupid... you would have to wait for someone else to create one for your character to be active... and can you play it when they aren't on? Things like that just made it seem more of a hassle than fun

Sovereign 2004-04-06 07:50 PM

But it would be something new, and who knows, SOME people might have had fun.

And the goblin tinkerer would have been kickass.

Medieval Bob 2004-04-07 03:34 PM

If the other player wasn't logged on, the other head would be asleep, and you would walk with a limp animation.

WetWired 2004-04-07 04:19 PM

But that's for not logged on. Since the name of the creature is derived from the names of the heads, two players would be neccesary before gameplay could start since the entity would be without name untill that point. Allowing the entity to exist with just the name of one head untill the other showed up would be bad, since the identity would be lost. What would be the worst is if two players got the same ogre that were always on at different times; due to no communication, items would always be dissapearing, the character would always be in just the wrong place upon login, etc. Also consider the situation where the other head has been abandoned, and thus is not leveling up, not adding to the max hp, not anything, where the whole point was to have two people. Any way you look at it, the only way it could work is if people were hand paired, and that would be expensive (pay for people that do the pairing)

Medieval Bob 2004-04-08 10:22 AM

If one head were not online, I don't think its hit points would be added to the hit point pool at all. Thus, the two-headed ogre would simply be a one-headed ogre with a large growth on its shoulder (and one paralyzed arm and a limp). It should play very similar to any other one-headed character.

Also, innovations are not perfect. There would be problems, and that is why they would have possibly changed the pairing system.

There could have been an option to go with a random partner or to input a code that you and another person think up to insure you are paired with that person.

Or, there could be a menu to input when a person generally plays, what time zone they are in, etc.

There are many ways to fix the problems associated with the sharing of a character by two people. The absolute worst way to fix them is to scrap the idea. The two-headed ogre can and should be implemented. Creativity is what keeps games fresh. This would have given WoW a huge advantage over EQ2, but... well...
