You can tell it is a wifebeater if the person wearing it is a Mexican.

No seriously... I don't know.

If you cant tell the difference, you must be visually impaired.

Well, these shirts, "wife beaters", were dubbed with their nifty little nickname after a certain famous movie by Marlon Brando... I'm sure you all must know what movie, and why, now that I mentioned it. But they actually are tank tops.

Yay... go James Caan! Beat that wife!

Actually, the name 'wife beater' came from Tina Turner's husband Ike Turner. Everytime he would beat her, he would wear a tank-top, later becoming the wife beater. Ike is even wearing the shirt in his mug shots.

o ok thx a lot

J_iceman 2003-12-12 09:29 AM

ok here is the deal,
the "wife beaters" is the regular tank tops, the REAL tank tops should show more of your back, the ones that muscle mag people would use !!! it feels more "open" and is ONLY used by people who have muscles because if skinny people use them, it just doen't look right

so if you are skinny, use the wife beaters

if you are buff, use the REALL stuff, if you buff people use the wife beaters, you will see that the "wife beaters" doesn't fit as well because either your shoulders or your arms are to big and would need the REALL tank tops. (i know because i had problems looking for REALL tank tops !!!

I have a friend that works in the clothing industry who disagrees with you.

Go go Marlon Brando!

But he says that's the same reason, just different scenarios. In the movie Brando would wear a wife beater every time he beat his wife. :o
