Raziel's Reviews: Carnal Forge - The More You Suffer
 

When was the last time you heard a song so heavy it almost hurt you? And I'm not talking "Ooh, that halogen lamp burnded my handsies" pain, I'm talking "force fed broken glass while being jerked off with a handful of razorblades and vomit" pain. You want to hear not just one song, but twelve songs of that hard-hitting caliber? Armor up friends, because you're heading for a world of hurt, and Carnal Forge only finds happiness in "The More You Suffer."

Hell. Blood. Fire. That's what the initials in the album's opening track "H.B.F. Suicide" stand for, and that's exactly what you'll get as the frantic opening riff blasts through your eardrums, flash frying your brain on the way out. The chorus breaks down a bit, bringing a sort of "death march" feeling with it. I can imagine legions of undead storming a helpless suburb to this song, and it pleases me to no end.

The insanity continues with the spastic "Deathblow", with an insane tempo, and a whirlwind mishmash of vocals and guitarwork. Not my personal favorite, but a goodie nonetheless. My favorite track on the album happens to be the third smattering of rotting brain matter entitled "Ripped And Torn". The intro is honestly one of the most viciously powerful bits of musical crescendo that I've ever heard, and it only gets better from there. The chorus actually features one of the few vocally harmonic moments on the disc, and is practically worth the price of admission on it's own. Truly brutal.

Other great moments on the album include "Destroy Life", "Into Oblivion" and one of my favorites, "Cursed", which has one of the catchiest death-metal choruses I've ever heard.

If you're a fan of violent, bloodsoaked audio-dismemberment, then you can't get much more hardcore than this. If you're looking for audio accompaniment for senselessly murdering a hooker, then you couldn't find a more perfect match. And if you're simply looking for a good album to break your own neck to, then I would certainly recommend that you spend a little less time stroking your rod and a little more time "Suffering". Buy it, or resign yourself to a life of dull inadequacy.

Great review though. I really enjoyred it. Keep them coming... I might have to check the album out, even though I like stuff that is a wee bit softer.

Well, it's not as ludicrously heavy as I may have led people to believe. I base heaviness on killer riffs and precise arrangements. A lot of people might read my review and think that I'm saying this band is pure noise, and they're not. I'd suggest downloading the recommended tracks, particularly "Ripped And Torn", and if that doesn't suit your taste, give "Cursed" a shot before giving up on them entirely.

I tried it out... it wasn't exactly what I expected, but in a good way. I like "Cursed". Probably the most.

They're a great band. Enjoy it, and if you like it enough, buy the CD. I'll have more reviews in the near future.
