Chrono Cross: Plot Genius

I used to simply pass Chrono Cross off as being an interesting, yet sufficiently inferior sequel to it's predecessor, the seemingly immortal Chrono Trigger. The main reason being that I had little idea what was going on as far as plot was concerned. I actually understood a lot of the pieces of the story, but I was just incapable of forming an entire picture from what I had remembered. When I finished the game, I was a bit disappointed. I was under the heavily erroneous assumption that CC was only really linked to CT in the most vague and open-ended of manners. The fact is, what I used to think simply isn't the truth at all.

I work the graveyard shift for half of the week. Unless I've got a new game to bring in, I have a tendency to get pretty bored. I was on the verge of falling asleep on the job one night, and so I decided to peruse GameFAQs for interesting reading material. I ended up reading Terrageist's "Story Guide" for the next hour or so, and after reading the entire thing, I became thoroughly convinced that of the two Chrono games, Chrono Cross was the better. And I stand by that opinion one-hundred percent.

The game so perfectly weaves together the events of Chrono Trigger that it doesn't even need to blatantly note it, but for a few occasions. It incorporates so many different time-travel and dimensional distortion theories that it initially comes off as frustrating, hence the need for a FAQ. But, once you've had someone really lay it out for you in a precise manner, it makes perfect sense. Simply fucking amazing. I'd strongly recommend reading this to anyone who has played the game, particularly if you found yourself disappointed with it after it was over. It's been probably two years since the last time I played it, and reading this FAQ has forced me to pick it up again. Seriously, read it.

That link doesn't work. You have to click on the "Plot FAQ" link after going here

Well...shit.

Just copy and paste the link into the address bar.

Or people can just hunt it down manually.

The game was too frustrating for me to finish it, but since I trust your judgement and I still have it, I'll play it again once I finish my newly aquired FFX(That I'm in love with, damn blitzball to hell though).

Chrono Cross is confusing, and I can't even get the DAMN Chrono Cross to work! Hey, anybody out here who knows how to make it work?! Chrono Cross = Element of the 7th Lost Attribute. All it does is make those stupid chimes every time I cast any other Element.

Rurouni Storm 2003-09-23 06:51 AM

You have to use certain elements in order. It also only works on the last boss.

Yellow, red, green, blue, black, and white.

Keep in mind that the boss's spells count as well and you need that EXACT order.

Cerridwen 2003-09-23 09:50 AM

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks! ^.^

Thank God you're only forced to play it once in the whole game.

It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.

If you want Wakka's best weapon, you have to play it a lot.

Raziel 2003-09-23 03:41 PM

Back on topic, dammit. This is about CC, not Final Fantasy 10.

Cerridwen 2003-10-02 01:55 AM

Chrono Cross is really OK. Just paled in comparison with Trigger. Not much to explore....
