Beer

In the past couple of months, I've slowly turned away from my extreme dislike of beer to a mild acceptance, even a liking, of some beers. Is this because I'm getting older? :(

talentedhamster 2012-06-27 06:00 PM

i dont think so!
i used to hate beer, now i drink it and i'm only 21 lol so i hope its not!!

-Spector- 2012-06-27 09:26 PM

Beer is the nectar of the gods.

You're thinking of Goldschläger

!King_Amazon! 2012-06-27 10:48 PM

This is not beer.

KagomJack 2012-06-27 10:55 PM

I don't even drink any of that shit. :[

kaos 2012-06-28 12:07 AM

You forgot http://www.beertutor.com/images/beer...gh_gravity.jpg

!King_Amazon! 2012-06-28 01:28 AM

Good.

Wallow 2012-06-28 07:20 AM

lol that's college sustenance for you.

Asamin 2012-06-28 07:57 AM

Hence why I shall not drink in College. My dad handed me some Blue Moon. Best shit ever.

Blue moon is piss water.

Asamin 2012-06-28 08:12 AM

I liked it. It's the only thing I've ever had. And it was like a quarter of a glass. so whatever.

!King_Amazon! 2012-06-28 09:06 AM

I will drink pretty much every beer in my post above before I'll drink blue moon.

Asamin 2012-06-28 09:09 AM

I challenge you to do so. Drink every single one of those beers then drink a blue moon. DO IT NOW! RECORD IT FOR MY AMUSEMENT!

!King_Amazon! 2012-06-28 10:08 AM

I'll just drink some real beer instead.

KagomJack 2012-06-28 10:38 AM

So give me some beer recommendations. I'm trying to find what I like and don't like. So far I seem to be more fond of lagers.

!King_Amazon! 2012-06-28 10:56 AM

I don't know many mainstream beers, since I drink mostly local microbrews. The only mainstream lagers that I would even suggest would be any by Samuel Smith or Samuel Adams. I can say that if you are drinking from a can you are most likely doing it wrong.

Thought of a few more. Yuengling is a great one, and Michelob Amber bock was my first beer which I still drink fairly regularly to this day. However, I actually prefer Shinerbock when it is available.

Wallow 2012-06-28 11:19 AM

Budlight, Corona, and Flying Dog are not that bad.

You did forget to include Rolling Rock in the crud pile.

!King_Amazon! 2012-06-28 11:29 AM

If you think Corona and Bud Light are "not that bad" then you have terrible taste in beers. I've never had Flying Dog, but I will probably never try it now that I know your opinion on it.

Sorry if I don't have access to your refined brews. Cheap beer is pretty much what we resort to drink so as to not empty out our wallets, and corona and bud compared to that is heaven.

Flying Dog has a pretty unique taste.

Lenny 2012-06-29 07:54 AM

You're like 16... why are you drinking?

---

In my humble opinion, beers taste like shit. Not as bad as wine, or some ciders, but still awful.

Wallow 2012-06-29 08:22 AM

What are you more into mixed drinks and cocktails?

If I was 16, I'd be one of the youngest going to college. Hell, I probably wouldn't even waste my time here.

Lenny 2012-06-29 09:04 AM

18, then? Still too young to drink on your side of the pond.

I'm teetotal. Don't like the taste of the alcoholic drinks, and a pint of Coke is 50p in my student bar (cheapest pint is £1.60).

!King_Amazon! 2012-06-29 09:19 AM

Mmmm cider. I wish it were more available here.

KagomJack 2012-06-29 09:39 AM

See, I used to feel the same way. My tastes are changing.

A year off.

And my college is extremely lax about alcohol and pot. You could do it on campus main and not face repercussions.

Asamin 2012-06-29 01:14 PM

Wallow, in 3.5 months you'll be 20.

JRwakebord 2012-07-15 12:11 AM

Sam Adams Summer Ale is the greatest beer in the world.
When that's not around I'll usually reach for Blue Moon.

For not so big breweries, I'm a big fan of Tuckerman Brewing Co. I've also had some pretty good Shipyard Brewing Co beers.

Corona is mexican piss, and Jeremy Clarkson was dead-on when he described Budweiser as "headache in a can"

!King_Amazon! 2012-07-15 08:11 AM

Blue Moon? Really? It's like soapy water.

JRwakebord 2012-07-18 04:52 PM

I'm a big fan of wheat ales

!King_Amazon! 2012-07-18 06:16 PM

You can do a lot better than Blue Moon.

For example:

JRwakebord 2012-07-18 06:30 PM

I'll see if I can find that at my local packie. Any other recommendations? I'm always willing to try new beers!

!King_Amazon! 2012-07-18 08:35 PM

I don't drink enough imported (from out of state) beers to give many recommendations. I suggest drinking local brews when you can.

http://greatbrewers.com/top-50/beers

That list is also probably not bad for the most part (Blue Moon is on it, lulz). I've had several of the beers listed and enjoyed most of them.

Depending on what state/region you live in I might be able to make specific recommendations.

JRwakebord 2012-07-18 08:40 PM

Yah I live in Massachusetts and try to hit up regional beer festivals from time to time in order to try out new stuff. That's how I discovered the Tuckerman Brewing Company I mentioned earlier

Medieval Bob 2012-07-19 12:25 PM

I usually prefer stouts or porters. Guinness is a good fallback, but I prefer Young's Double Chocolate Stout. My favorite as of late has been Left Hand's Milk Stout.

Rookie tip: If you're drinking a stout other than Guinness, give it a hard pour. You want lots of head from the pour, or it's going to taste wrong.

JRwakebord 2012-07-19 11:53 PM

I can do Guinness in certain situations (usually car boms), but I almost universally prefer lighter beers

!King_Amazon! 2012-07-20 10:16 AM

Two of my favorite local beers are really dark. The more drinkable of the two is BABA Black Lager.

http://www.beercruiser.net/images/beers/Baba.JPG

The other is an oatmeal stout called Captain Bastard's and is basically a meal in a glass. I think my record for one sitting is three of these.

Mmmm beer

You ever had the Wild Blue - Blueberry Lager? That's actually pretty good, and the woodchuck although I guess that is technically a cider.

Grav 2012-07-25 04:19 AM

Lenny, try Strongbow.

Lenny 2012-07-25 05:15 AM

Oh, I have. Foul substance. Horribly dry, with an aftertaste like vomit.
