Zelaron online gaming sessions?

Join our Unreal Tournament game now!

Since we apparently have no good candidate for a multiplayer arcade for the time being, I think we should host various multiplayer gaming sessions at least once every week instead. Anyway, I'm curious about what games you think would be ideal for this?

A few ideas:
  • Settlers of Catan (Up to 6 players, if I recall correctly.)
  • Unreal Tournament (UT99 or 2004, probably... I haven't really played UT3 much, and it requires a fairly new computer) (Up to 32 players.)
  • Alien Swarm (UT2004 mod that's still awesome. Up to 8 players, I think.)
  • StarCraft (Up to 8 players.)
  • Total Annihilation (The best strategy game of all time according to GameSpot. StarCraft was their second choice. Supports up to 8 players or so.)
  • Serious Sam: The First Encounter (Constant action; no real way to "lose" in multiplayer co-op. Up to 16 players.)

Games like Baldur's Game II are awesome in co-op, but it kind of requires everyone who joined the first game to be present in all subsequent games. It's a bit hard to pull that off with more than three players.

though what you are thinking of may be goog for you but what about people who cant play/get the games

we should use like a free game that we can meet up in

WetWired 2009-06-07 07:32 PM

Settlers is free.

!King_Amazon! 2009-06-07 08:43 PM

I think we should still play games like BG2. Form smaller groups for those. Multiple groups. Maybe we could compete to see which groups do best.

That game was fun for a while. I didn't know it was free, though.

Can you find some texas hold 'em?

Wallow 2009-06-08 01:14 PM

Let's all play Runescape!

jamer123 2009-06-08 01:15 PM

runescape is for people who just has no life

Chruser 2009-06-09 10:44 PM

Okay, we're going to start off with Unreal Tournament (UT99). We'll probably play three games of Capture The Flag followed by three games of Domination or Team Deathmatch (20 min per game). Depending on how many players will participate, we may change our plans a bit, and/or play other game types afterwards if there is sufficient interest.

Date: Saturday, June 13
Time: 8 PM EST
Server address: 85.228.218.24
Game: http://www.zelaron.com/gear/UnrealTournament_GOTY.exe

We'll probably play a few practice matches tomorrow, June 10, at 6 PM EST if there is sufficient interest. Also, the link will be gone before you know it!

Reply and state whether you're most definitely in, or may possibly be participating.

Throwing in my .02 here, but I think Saturday evening may be a bad time for some people. Normally I'm out and about on Saturdays, but meh who knows. It's a bad time for me at least.

We can host multiple UT sessions in the next few days, I guess. Do you have any suggestions for time(s) and date(s)?

Thanatos 2009-06-09 11:59 PM

Are we sure enough people will participate? I just finished downloading the UT file so count me in.

D3V 2009-06-10 07:38 AM

I will try and play but i've just been super busy during the entire 7day weeks. The biggest turnout day is the one i'm going to try and count myself in

Chruser 2009-06-12 11:37 AM

So, three of us are potentially game? Fun.

I downloaded. Call me a noob, but what kind of game is it?

WetWired 2009-06-12 05:54 PM

I'm interested in the idea, but am not available most of the weekend.

Grav 2009-06-12 07:14 PM

Hey, I'm in actually. Sounds fun.

Tomorrow at 8 PM EST? My days off are ___day and ____day, so one of those would be better in the future.

I also support playing Texas Hold'em. Pokerstars.net would work for this.

!King_Amazon! 2009-06-12 07:22 PM

I'm definitely down for some texas hold'em.

Grav 2009-06-12 08:34 PM

!King_Amazon! is down for some texas hold'em. Make it so.

Chruser 2009-06-12 09:08 PM

I'll host the UT99 server tonight. If everyone ends up with 250+ ping for whatever reason (which sounds unlikely since I have an 18 mbps upstream fiber connection, but since I live in Sweden...), is there anyone else who is willing to give it a try? If so, give information about your connection.

Grav 2009-06-12 09:36 PM

See you in twenty hours!

Chruser 2009-06-12 11:33 PM

I've started a team deathmatch practice server so you can check that everything seems to work well.

Server address: 85.228.218.24

(Multiplayer > Open Location)

Remember, the official matches start tonight (Saturday, June 13) at 8 PM EST. The server address may be different by then, so remember to check this thread again.

Chruser 2009-06-13 12:29 PM

Also, be sure to visit Options > Player Setup to change your name and player settings. This is also where you go to change teams (e.g. from Red to Blue) during team matches.

Chruser 2009-06-13 03:57 PM

Okay, feel free to join the game server whenever you like. The official matches will start approximately 2 hours after this message was posted (at 8 PM EST).

Server address: 85.228.218.24

(Multiplayer > Open Location)

Make sure to set up your name properly in Options > Player Setup. That is also where you can change teams, should you be unhappy with yours.

Furthermore, press the t button in-game to write messages to other players.

Oh, and if you're afraid to join because you think your IP will be displayed to everyone in the game, they won't. Only the server administrator (me) will be able to see them.

I say we set up a conference call on Skype. My skype is pimpinredhatman. Contact me and I'll add you to the conference call.

!King_Amazon! 2009-06-13 04:15 PM

Actually, nevermind, I cannot play UT99 after playing UT2K4 for the past few days.

Chruser 2009-06-13 04:18 PM

UT99 > UT2004 > You.

Chruser 2009-06-13 05:45 PM

All right, join the game!

Server Address: 85.228.218.24

Chruser 2009-06-13 07:45 PM

You fail it.

!King_Amazon! 2009-06-13 08:14 PM

Hi guys.

Grav 2009-06-13 08:17 PM

!King_Amazon! shouldn't have fed it

Chruser 2009-06-13 09:19 PM

Sigh. http://www.zelaron.com/gear/whoco5.gif

Next date should be Tuesday, 16 - 8PM EST. I'm afraid I might not have caught this one in time.

Chruser 2009-06-13 10:21 PM

If we can all agree on a server that doesn't lag too badly, sure.

!King_Amazon! 2009-06-14 04:55 AM

How about everyone get UT2K4 so we can play a game that isn't horrible?

Grav 2009-06-14 06:51 AM

Can older video cards handle it?

How old? It runs fine on my semi-archaic laptop with a 128 MB ATi eXpress card. I figure that 64 MB should work okay, too, although it may not look remarkably pretty.

It's an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300. 128mb I think...

Chruser 2009-06-14 09:22 AM

That should be fine.

WetWired 2009-06-14 02:03 PM

I should be able to host a UT2004 server on my server. I assume everyone has reasonable ping to here?
