6-Week Program?

I'm about to start this 'training' program that involves getting upwards of doing 100 consecutive pushups and 200 consecutive situps.

These workout routines only take about '30 minutes a week!'.

In addition to the 100 pushups and 200 situps, I'm going to push for a mile and 1/2 in 11 minutes. I know some of you may smoke this out of the water, but I realistically need to get my miles back down in the 7 minute category and push it out the next 4 minutes to get the next half mile.

As soon as I can get these all going, I'm going to work on my 300m sprint as well, which I am going to set for 45 seconds. I actually have no clue wether I could do this or not, but it's still going to be fun to try it out and see.

I'm currently at about 60-63 pushups in one session but I want to push it all the way out to 100.
As for situps, not as good. I'm probably only around 50-55 right now, which is okay but I am going to push it towards 200 in this 6 week program.

Here are the sites including all of the information.

I figured I would post this all here, as it will help me keep track and I can show how the system works to myself and even better, you guys.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-05-12 08:55 AM

I have not really been working out since I have been in Iraq :( But thats gonna change when we get on a daily workout schedule back in Germany. My goal is 70 Pushups in 2 minutes, 70 Situps in 2 Minutes and a 2 mile run time of 13:00 to 13:30. Wanna meet those goals with me D3V?

D3V 2009-05-12 09:01 AM

I am absolutely going to give it my best shot. I am willing to keep a log as well, if you are wanting to. I need to schedule my workouts and keep track of everything if I am ever going to make it into a continual routine, so I figured post it on here. 2 miles in 13-1330 will probably be the easiest thing for me to accomplish, I imagine the push-ups are going to come in time, 6 weeks should be easy. The situps though I need to hit that plateau to where I can start adding more strenght, I'm still at the point where it's a struggle ya'know?

Off-topic: Your Sig made me go dizzy for a second or two through my peripheral vision.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-05-12 09:06 AM

Thats the point of it lol. I am currently trying to make an even trippier sig.

On topic: Yea we can keep logs, perhaps create a social group for this purpose.

D3V 2009-05-12 09:10 AM

That could work, or just keep things in this thread. Social Groups need to be revised and worked on, the structure and lack of update notifications is annoying and hard to keep things accounted for and tracked.

Hence the poll I made. The newer version of vBulletin has customizable social groups and notifications for new messages in them. We just need to talk WetWired into the upgrade.

Well, I actually bought that P90X workout recently, and I'm in Week 5 of the workout. I'll tell you what, it is intense and really works. I haven't been in this good of shape since college, 5+ years ago!

That's awesome man. The thing is, stuff like that only works if you can get motivated, and people that are that motivated usually aren't out of shape, get my gist? Hah, but that's still great to know man.

Can I have this moved to the Health forum?(then edit this part)

I'm up to 55 pushups still, but my bench I've noticed, has increased pretty good. It's back up to 165x8 reps. (not sure of my max) and I could've done more if I had a spotter, but wasn't wanting to try my luck. Situps are still about the same, i'm going to try using weight with my crunches and get those numbers a bit higher.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-05-18 10:39 AM

Just do your situps very slow, and hold yourself at the half way up position so your back is at a 45 degree angle. And hold that until your abs are on fire and you have sweat running down your face from pain. Then rest for a few minutes and do as many situps as you can and then end it with the half way up again. Rinse, repeat each time you do an ab workout.

Sorry! Too lazy to send a pm also, but yes the whole thread would be excellent. I posted it in the wrong section for some reason.

Week 3 update:

Haven't been too strict, but I'm at:

72 pushups in two minutes.
75 situps in two minutes.

As for running, I finally started back up last friday and hit up some treadmills/bike/stair stepper/inclined bike (etc) for a few hours, and am going again tomorrow. I had a light mile which timed out at 8:15 which isn't too bad, and then the next half was 5:25 or something.. i'm going today to see if I can't dip into the 7's for now, then just light jog the rest of the second mile and add the time to that. Gotta get to that 12 minute mark (military standard).

HandOfHeaven 2009-06-02 10:20 AM

When you say that you run, are you running around a track or just on a treadmill? Both are very different, as you might know.

I've just started running around here outside, and it's been pretty nice. I run downhill for about 10-11 minutes, and then uphill for about 10-11 minutes. My goal is to be able to run for 30 to 45 minutes without stopping and with ease. Maybe get the runner's 'high'.

Ah yes I failed to mention i'm running on the treadmill, and I've left it set at the 1.0 incline setting to try and even out the difference from running on that compared to an actual track. I'm going again today to just work on endurance again and will do the same wed/thurs then on sat or sunday i'll try to see what my new fast pace is. I'm so excited about running again, it really does release a ton of endorphans and make you feel great, just gotta stick with it.

Titusfied 2009-06-02 11:47 AM

Why would you put it on an incline to offset a track feel? Running on a treadmill is much more difficult than out on a track because of your extreme limited range of running motion. If anything, you should put it on a decline to help your cause!

D3V 2009-06-02 12:03 PM

I figure I could get more endurance through an incline, which is what I'm working on (incline). When I go to actually test my time I'm going to set it at 0 on the treadmill and see what I run. If the time is adequate i'll go ahead and just keep working on endurance and work the distance up, if not i'll test it again on an actual track and see what's up.

Actually 13 minute 2 mile is a perfect score for the physical training test. Anything faster than that is wasted unless you score perfect for the push-ups and sit-ups. If you score 100 points in each event then you are allowed to tally whatever extra you did into your score. The highest score I have personally seen someone get was around a 380. Oh and we have this extremely buff short guy that can do 180+ push-ups in 2 minutes.

Titusfied 2009-06-05 10:23 AM

Holy shit, 180+ in 2 minutes... I haven't tried, but I always thought of myself as decent at push-ups, and I can probably only do 75 or so in 2 minutes. Actually, maybe I'll try right now.

Willkillforfood 2009-06-05 10:25 AM

And then I imagine Titusfied dropping down on the floor at work and doing push-ups.

Titusfied 2009-06-05 10:27 AM

Well that was interesting. I did 77, and it wasn't for lack of time. I could barely lift myself anymore by that time...

Titusfied 2009-06-05 10:27 AM

Actually, I'm on flex schedule for the summer and I'm home since I worked half a day today. :D

Willkillforfood 2009-06-05 10:30 AM

Nice. When're you gonna take over the firm?

My bro's graduating with his EE degree next semester with like a 3.9 GPA and as a member of whatever the honorary engineering frat is. How much do you expect he'll make?

Okay that's what I was looking for.

I guess it's now at week 4:

I'm now up to
83 pushups in 2 minutes
91 situps in 2 minutes

1.5 miles in 14 minutes lulz. I'm so close to that damn mark, I'm going running like every day for this entire week to get my mile time on lock, and i'm going to kill the Ab machines to try and make up some of the ground.

Titusfied 2009-06-09 07:51 AM

Hmm, I'd say that he'll make around $60k, maybe less depending on where he is looking for a job and who with? I'm honestly not positive how much inflation occurred since I last graduated, but that is a fair assessment.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-08-15 11:27 AM

I have gotten my mile time down to 6:30 finally. Next goal is less than 6 minutes per mile for 2 miles. I have been running everyday, twice a day about 10k a day cross country and it has really made an impact on my physical condition. Now I just ordered a "MiR 50Lbs Short Adjustable Weighted Vest" to help pull me under the 6 minute mark.
http://www.mirweightedvest.com/images/new60_s1_1.gif

D3V 2009-08-18 03:07 PM

How much did one of those cost you? I've been wanting to experiment with new equipment and new techniques and besides punching bags and gloves I can't think of much else to get. Along with some running weights, i've been thinking about getting a runner's parachute, and it actually would probably tie onto that vest somehow, possibly.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-08-19 02:02 AM

I went through 4 sets of ankle weights, and they all broke so I decided to get the vest. $129.99 at amazon. The best thing about the vest is that it is a shortened vest. So I have full abdominal use and can do sit-ups and crunches with the vest on. All the reviews for the vest are 4 and 5 star reviews. They also sell a full vest that is like 89 lbs I think. That is a bit to heavy for me to run with tho. Maybe for hiking/road marching.

D3V 2009-08-19 08:30 AM

That's awesome. Amazon's the place to go then, huh? Shipping? I'm looking though anything right now I can use to push myself to another plateau, and weighted workouts would be excellent right now.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-08-19 08:59 AM

You really need to start running every other day at least. Burn the body fat and increase your endurance. When you can run 10k a day 6 days a week then it is probally time for weights.

You need to hit the trails man. Treadmills are for pussies. Go outside in the heat, sweat your ass off, hit ungodly hills... otherwise your weak.

Ah no, that was from a while back. Trust me, I know about the heat and sweating my ass off. The last few weeks i've been running at a local park and they have a huge baseball field with a nice cemented ring around it, along with individual trails leading off into nowhere and looping back out. I've timed myself on the track, not the treadmill. Hell, the treadmill only gets used now if it's raining outside or too dark to go running.

Normally when it rains in Florida it comes with about 2-3 hours of lightning strikes as well. Sorry, i'd rather do other cardio being on the tread mill, or just jumping rope inside. I'd like to try doing some weighted jump ropes with that weighted vest on.

Xenn 2009-08-20 09:41 PM

Maybe you're taking a more... holistic approach, but is a weighted vest really the best idea for dropping mile times? It sounds good in theory but I've got a lot of experience with distance running and that's not an accepted standard.

It probably will help you with fast twitch muscles though.

I don't care about whats 'accepted'. I am in the army, and we have to run with rucksacks on our backs once a week. Atleast this vest will evenly distribute the weight on my shoulders. Also I plan on only hitting hills with it hard, going uphill is so much easier on my knees and ankles. Downhill running is gay and painful.

Xenn 2009-08-21 09:40 PM

What I meant was weight training isn't the best method if you're looking to solely drop distance times. I'm guessing you're more in the business of overall fitness (cardiovascular as well as muscular improvement), though.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-08-22 09:26 AM

Correct.

D3V 2009-12-09 01:59 PM

I've got a new diet laid out for when I move, it's going to be much easier to follow being a fulltime student.

6:00am coffee and protein powder mixed in water (about 100 cals)
7:30am oatmeal with flax and protein powder (about 400 cals)
9:30am mixed frozen vegetables with spaghetti sauce and protein powder mixed in water (about 400 cals)
12:00 shredded wheat with nonfat milk, flax, and protein powder (about 400 cals)
2:30pm can of kidney beans and raisins (about 300 cals)
5:00pm dried soybeans and raisins (about 300 cals)
7:30pm mixed frozen vegetables with spaghetti sauce and protein powder mixed in water (about 300 cals)
9:00pm protein powder mixed in water (100 cals)

This is going to be wonderful once I get into the heavier weight training.
