Is that Mathworks MATLAB?! I keep not doing the MATLAB problems on my econ homework because I don't have the program (and I couldn't find the computers at the library that supposedly have it).

How many backgrounds do you have it changing between, or do you only have it set for one background? I have three backgrounds on it. However, I'm not going to post my Windows 7 background.

My laptop, that has Vista, is what I'm using right now and it has black for the background. How exciting. I made a background today that I was going to bring home, since I made it at a class of mine, but apparently I lost it at some point. I'll bring it tomorrow and post it. It's for 1280 x 1024.

Lenny 2009-03-11 03:08 AM

Nah, just the one - same on both monitors.

I was messing around earlier with this picture above.

As for the picture I was talking about, it's called Bliss Paint. Made with Windows 7 build 7000 MS Paint.

You're not a fan of Bleach at all, are you?

And sharp...and digging into sensitive skin? Those rocks don't look like they'd be completely flat and smooth.

Anybody have a favorite site to get desktop backgrounds? I'm tiring of the one I have and most of the sites out there blow.

Hey, how did you make the icons on the desktop group together?

Lenny 2009-03-26 06:58 AM

Well, the subs used "Hello!" rather than "Good Afternoon" - personally I think "Hello!" fits better. :p

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04FueqDANh8

Whatever you do, do NOT watch any of the English dubs - they're terribly, terribly, terribly awful. Japanese Ed is by far the better voice actor.

---

The program is Fences from Stardock: http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/

Seeing as you've got multiple monitors, you might be interested in MaxTo: http://maxto.net/

MaxTo allows you to set up regions on your desktop, which programs will fill when maximised, but no more - there's the Main region (standard maximise), Alternate (hold Alt and maximise), and the default Windows Full Screen (hold Shift and maximise). I'm on an old version, though, so there might be more. You can also Save and Load profiles, which means you can have as many layouts as you want. Quite nifty.

I've used a program like that before, it wasn't real helpful. Anyways, Windows 7 has it's own thing that has been far more helpful.

Like, if you are on the corner of a border window and your mouse is a two way arrow for resizing, double click, then you can make it fit top and bottom max but not width. Oh, and I was using 7048 when I posted that, I'm on 7057 now. I keep upgrading to the newest version. It's quite fun keeping up with all of the newest improvements. Fences works on 7057, how nice.

Lenny 2009-03-27 07:16 AM

I know it does, but I find that MaxTo gives me much more control over the windows than Windows 7, which only does vertical resizing, complete maximising, and half-screen maximising.

And whilst we're talking about resizing, have you tried the new Chrome Beta? It's got a nice new feature that allows you to snap tabs to the desktop, and to other tabs - view them side by side, one above the other, and four in a square, as well as the usual Windows 7 ones.

New Chrome Beta? As in, they've released another beta? To be honest I'm using Internet Explorer or FireFox again now because they're faster than Chrome in my Windows 7 version for some reason.

Gamespot took 15-seconds to load in Chrome Beta
Gamespot took 7-seconds to load in Internet Explorer 8, Win 7 build 7057
Gamespot took 6.5-seconds to load in FireFox 3.07

Lenny 2009-03-28 07:45 AM

Same site: six seconds in Chrome Beta, nine in IE8, and thirteen in Maxthon. I don't have FireFox.

And yes, it's another Beta - they've got the standard release, and a Beta release which contains new features, is quite a bit faster, but is considered unstable. When they've got the beta sorted, then it becomes the standard release and they release another beta with more new features, but which is unstable.

Safari 4 for Windows is apparently pretty quick, which is a surprise. Makes you wonder if they've started using the version of WebKit that Google has optimised for Chrome.

I've had Safari 4 for a while now. It has decent speeds but has some issues with Flash and JavaScript right now. Hopefully those will be resolved in time. I'll try the new beta soon so that I can get back to you on the speed. And on Vista Ultimate Chrome Beta was the fastest. In fact, in Windows 7 Beta it was the fastest. Now that I'm on Windows 7, build 7057, IE 8, which does not say it's a beta anymore, is a lot faster. Kinda strange actually.

Is that IE8 or Windows 7? If W7 then that's because, technically, it ain't. The only official beta version of Windows 7 is the build that MS released - Build 7000 - which is also the only Windows 7 Beta that MS is going to release. Both 7048 and 7057 are leaked versions of the final and, as MS did not plan to release them, they don't carry the Beta tag. 7057 is most likely part of the Release Candidate family.

If IE8, well, it's not a Beta either, seeing as MS released it just over a week ago. I imagine a finalish version was included in W7 Build 7057 so that MS could test it. Just so happens that the wider world got to test it, too.

Edit:
Don't know if you've seen the news about the RC - http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=2369&tag=nl.e539. It expires in June 2010! :D

Hopefully RTM will be around Autumn, and GA in the early part of next year. If so, then we'll still have a few months for the price to drop if no-one can crack it.

Btw, when you install the new Chrome beta, visit: http://www.chromeexperiments.com. It's a collection of JS pages designed for Chrome. Some of them are rather good - there's a bouncing ball one which is fun to spread across monitors, one that bounces balls off lines to make notes, and another notey one that uses the gravity of points and sucks particles in to make drones (you can change the pitch of them).

It's Windows 7's Internet Explorer 8 version that comes with it. Yes, it's leaked and 7057 is part of the release candidate family.

I already cracked my system so that I won't expire. I got rid of the watermark and some other things. If you want the program I used, PM me.
