New to Zelaron
Hello.
My name is Chris Newton, and I am new to Zelaron. I was recruited by Yawgmoth, who is a member of my staff. Staff of what? The magazine that I am bringing to the Zelaron community. Eye of the Vortex is a gaming magazine dedicated to .. well you - the Gamer. I don't want this to come across as an advertisement, so I will leave it as that. That is the reason I am coming to the community. For the last three years I have been a writer and editor for MagicDeckVortex.com. I also was the Lead Writer (editor-in-chief) for that website. I also played Magic for around 13 years, so as far as Magic goes, you could call me an expert, or someone who spent alot of money and time on something who has nothing to show for it except memories. Anyways, I hope to get to know you guys. Thanks for reading. |

It was not supposed to come across like that. Would you kindly tell me how I should say 'Hi, I am joining your group, this is who I am and what I do', without being a complete jerk? If I did come off like that, then I apologize, that was not what I intended.

Hello, welcome to Zelaron. Just a reminder, don't just write about gaming on this forum even if you do write a magazine about it. This forum is a "gaming forum," but there are people here that talk about other topics as well.

Welcome to Zelaron, Tynion! I looked at the magazine in question, which i found very... Lovecraftian at its core. It has more to do with fantasy and transhumanism than gaming, in a good way. I'm looking forward to the next issue.

Welcome to Zelaron.
Warning: You will be mocked. Everyone is. Please, do not take offense. |

And a douchebag. |

Did I hear booze stash?

You should consider if your own behaviour is the reason for the mockery you experience, for to me it seems highly likely that that is the case. And if this is true (I have not investigated) those who react towards you are not to blame. Anyway, welcome Chris - glad to have you here. |
Welcome Chris! ...... Fuck off jamer... >.> Anywho...

If anyone else new had posted that shit, they'd been banned for spamming. Welcome.

Khwiii is too busy playing CoD4 24/7.
|
Not quite 24/7. I gotta work and sleep. Other then that, yep, you are right. Last time I attempted Halo, it was bad.... very bad.

Tynion: I don't think that shared forum thing will work
[...] Tynion: How can I possibly send people to a forum where they will be basically verbally abused There goes our prospective co-operation and the possibility of gaining a siginificantly larger member base than what we have today. Oh well. |

So basically, you were trying to pimp us out to him in exchange for new members? I think I'm not so keen on this idea.
|
if that would happen to me i would sue

Anyway, that won't matter now. Time for plan B. |
Does it involve nukes and world domination? If so, count me out.
|
We weren't really rude to him at all, honestly. He must be extremely sensitive to say something of that sort. It wouldn't have worked anyways.
|
You can still take advantage of the search rankings by linking to him from here, no?

I talked to you about this yesterday and you seemed to agree. Am I incorrect in assuming that? |
Too bad, a gaming magazine could've added some interesting conversation.

Go back and read the thread. I think someone, be it you, Yawgmoth, or Tynion, is taking something too seriously. Hardly anyone even said anything that could be TAKEN as bad to the guy. I told you myself during our conversation recently that I was the one who initiated any sort of hostility toward him, but the reasons behind doing so are valid. There was a severe lack of communication between you and the rest of the staff, or even the members for that matter. Yawgmoth was made a Supreme Mod without any of the rest of the staff being informed of such a thing until it happened, at least as far as I know. Then, this guy shows up claiming to know Yawgmoth and saying that he's going to bring his magazine to Zelaron, implying that something was once again going on behind the scenes that none of the members or staff, excluding you and Yawgmoth, knew about. As I told you, I thought you were going to let him advertise his magazine here in return for him paying for Zelaron, or something along those lines. Either way, we've already talked about this in private. You, at the time, seemed to agree with me. I can supply the chat log that shows as much, if you would like. |

Sure, this might serve as natural selection of sorts - but there are those who might have had potential. (Also, it lies in our interest to have a large reader-base.) |
To my knowledge, no one but KA was the slightest bit rude to him. And KA wasn't even that rude (he was making a good point, and it was constructive criticism.) The only two of your members I know of are you and this fellow. Both of you are not the stereotypical, normal new member. Each of you is wanting to immediately seize the reigns of Zelaron. The only person that's gotten an overly rude response is most likely you. Your thread, entitled "An unfriendly reminder", was mistaken for something other than satire. You have to understand, until a history of sarcasm is established, you're going to be taken at face value. That's the case with pretty much everyone.
If he's using the treatment of you as a barometer for the forum's treatment of most people then he's seriously mistaken. Unless someone is a complete douche when they start posting then the replies are normally benign. However, there is a sort of social darwinism in place on these forums as you've commented on. In the longrun, normally the ones with the thickest hide remain. |
Maybe this is just my opinion, but this isn't much of a gaming forum anymore. When I come home from training and there are 17 threads with new posts, 2 of which are about games, I can't see how the gaming aspect is that big. I know I don't come back here for the gaming insight, as this place hasn't been on the cutting edge for games in.... well... along time.
I dunno, maybe people would've been more receptive, if it hadn't been shoved down their throats. |
