Lenny's Text to Speech!

Welcome, welcome.

IF there are still some of you that are unfamiliar with Lenny's commentary of his own post, then you need to venture over and check it out.

http://zelaron.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45363

In this thread, we get a glimpse at hearing what it sounds like in the 'British' perspective. Now, it dawned on me that, why should we stop with just this? We have access to an Brit! Our very own Brit! Why not use him to our full potential.

Which is why I am gauging interest and possibly starting a thread that will have requests sent to Lenny foremost to read out quotes/passages from stories.

If you want Lenny to read something specifially, you need to provide the content

Ex: A link, a quote, something. Don't say hey go read pg. 121 from a Dawkins book, but in turn actually provide a short paragraph to have narrated.

Also, It occured to me that we could have Lenny do impersonations. Even though

I still believe it would be funny to hear a British version of crappy impersonations we hear over here all of the time.

I was thinking along the lines of

-Canadian impersonation (doesn't matter the dialect)
-Cowboy/Redneck impersonation
-New Yorker/Gotti impersonation
-Mexican impersonation
-Middle Eastern impersonation
-Possibly some ebonics.

Basically, it's whatever anybody could want. But then again, this is just a gauging interest thread, if nobody gives two shits then we can just move on to the next stupid idea. But this if the best I can think of for now.

WetWired 2008-04-10 01:56 PM

Sounds like a scheme for the peon to enslave the duke, to me.

-Spector- 2008-04-10 05:41 PM

Could be fun..

Lenny 2008-04-11 03:27 AM

This Mighty Duke is wont to appease the uneducated on occasion. It keeps them happy, you see, and happy peasants are less likely to revolt. But even so, I have large rooms in my castle full of cake, should that terrible time come. And if it does, well, I have enough strong arms on my serving staff for at least three days and three nights of lobbing said confectionary at the commoners.

---

Anyway, currently the only request is from Thanatos, which is to read the post that was directed to GLG. Might take me a while - in Word it's three pages long!

Demosthenes 2008-04-11 03:40 AM

I have a request for Lenny. This comes from a Dawkins book, so I've heard it in a British accent before, but it would be awesome to hear it from another British accent:

Quote:

The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

Lenny 2008-04-11 03:43 AM

Just one moment whilst I untie my tongue, please.

Now, do you want that done in one take, or can I mix and mash? :p

Oh, and quoted so he can't change it:

EDIT: Here you go, MJ. If you want me to cut it down to just the quote, then I can do.

Demosthenes 2008-04-11 04:13 AM

I'll have to wait till the morning to listen to it -- girlfriend's sleeping right now.

And that's what? Two mistakes this year, then?

Lenny 2008-04-11 04:15 AM

Haha, yep. I even say in the recording that, "I've found his second mistake of the year". :p

Demosthenes 2008-04-11 05:27 PM

Oh my fucking God, that was awesome!

Goodlookinguy 2008-04-11 06:27 PM

You make my username awesome! Why, oh why?! We just don't have the same effect when speaking.

!King_Amazon! 2008-04-11 07:46 PM

Honestly you kinda sound more Australian than British.

Vault Dweller 2008-04-11 10:13 PM

Nonetheless, this is a fascinating exercise. I think Lenny may need his own podcast.

I concur.

Lenny 2008-04-13 05:13 AM

Let's see... my exams finish on June 6th, I think. From then, I've got three weeks of free life until I start my Summer job at the start of July.

For the first week, I'm planning on doing nothing but Website Building - new site design, and a blog. I've already built the first page of my new blog site, so the majority of that work is done (I just need to do the rest of the pages), and I'm halfway through drawing up a new design for my site.

Now what I was going to do, in addition with blog posts (every Saturday or Sunday, hopefully) was record videos of me reading the blog and building up on it... but seeing as how Vista abhors my webcam, I might do podcasts instead.

EDIT: I'm also going to see about buying a domain/webspace from a professional host, seeing as how I'm into web design so much.

D3V 2008-04-13 01:22 PM

I'll have a few things tomorrow Lenny :)

-Spector- 2008-04-14 05:28 PM

Tomorrow is today, d3v.

Here's a few quotes I'd like to have TTS'd

These next quotes from Steve Irwin; the Crocodile hunter

And yes you must do them in the Austrailian accent.

Quote:

Because when they strike it can be that quick that if they're within range, you're dead, you're dead in your tracks. And his head weighs more than my body so it's WHACK!
Quote:

Crikey means gee whiz, wow!
Quote:

Take the crocodile, for example, my favorite animal. There are 23 species. Seventeen of those species are rare or endangered. They're on the way out, no matter what anyone does or says, you know.

Lenny 2008-04-17 04:01 PM

Nice one. I'll get on them tomorrow, hopefully.

And get ready for the bestest Australian accent you've ever heard from an Englishman.

KagomJack 2008-04-19 12:33 AM

Say "Wo shi Hanbaobao Xiansheng."

Pronounced "waw shr hahn-bow-bow shee-in-shuung" :D

Even though their dialects are almost identical I'm pretty sure I can still tell the difference, oh and I left out my own

Lenny 2008-04-20 04:24 PM

Sorry it's taking so long! I've got the four 'normal' ones done, and Kagom's, but I'm still working on an Australian accent.

KagomJack 2008-04-20 07:06 PM

Good luck with the Aussie one!

D3V 2008-04-28 01:51 PM

Lenny, where are our TTS?

Demosthenes 2008-04-28 01:58 PM

Lenny, here's a long one for you. You should have your own podcast.

=============================================

That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there–on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.

D3V 2008-04-28 02:12 PM

Here's a few from one of my favorite movies ever, Fight Club.

::

You wake up at Seatac, SFO, LAX. You wake up at O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, BWI. Pacific, mountain, central. Lose an hour, gain an hour. This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time. You wake up at Air Harbor International. If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?

::

Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

Lenny 2008-04-28 02:39 PM

They'll come, don't fret.

I'm busy revising/doing Computing Coursework until the 15th May, when I start my exams, which I'll finish on the 6th June. After that, unless I've already done so, I'll get round to doing every TTS that I haven't done.

Promise.

D3V 2008-04-28 02:54 PM
