PS3 Price Drop & 80gb SKU
http://www.psu.com/node/11984
Sony have today announced that the 60gb PS3 will, from July 10th, be $100 cheaper in the US (an announcement concerning European pricing will come over E3) -- $499. Also, in early August, the 80gb SKU will go on sale in the US. It is packaged with a copy of Motorstorm. http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6173806.html http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160853 |
So that dirty rumor was true. :>
|
This might be the determening factor if I get muh own PS3 or not,,... hmm.
|
That, and maybe the fact that Best Buy, I think it is (maybe a few others, too), have some kind of Summer deal in which one can acquire five free Blu-ray films.
|
Which would be SICKKKKKK! I've got a buddy that works there i'ma have to get the 411 on that shyt.
|
Geeze, just how much is Sony willing to pay you to take one off their hands? Or are they going to start shipping the PS2-less version for that price in the US?
The reason that the PS3 isn't selling well has nothing to do with the system price, it's the fact that it has no huge games yet that you couldn't have already gotten for another system. |

Sony seems to be gettin smarter with this price drop. Every system to come out gets the majority of its sales after a couple of price drops, more of them out there to by hence u dont have to wait in front of best buy for a week and they are much cheaper = money in the bank shorty whatcha drank. |
I'm still waiting for the next Gran Turismo that you can play multiplayer, I've been fucking waiting for that since GT3 when they promised to put a patch together so we could play online, it never came, waited for GT4 which was supposed to be online, never came, and now the GT "HD" that is coming out next supposively dropped online play, I haven't checked up on it in a while actually but last I heard they weren't doing online til GT5.. which is stupid imo.
|
GT HD was going to be a full blow game, but was dropped in favour of GT5, which supposedly WILL have online multiplayer. I think GT5 is in production at the moment.
GT HD is now a single track download with 10 unlockable cars, an unlockable drift mode, and an unlockable backwards version of the track. Looks nice, but it ain't my cup of tea. |
GT HD has online leaderboard, IIRC.
|
Oh really? SWEET! Damn man I need to be keeping up with this shyt a little better... Thanks for the heads up
|
About half an hour after I replied, Sony announced GT5: Prologue at their E3 conference - a PSN downloadable thing (don't know whether it's free, though), with FULL online multiplayer. Being released later this year, and will act as a prologue to the full GT5 game.
EDIT: Here you go, D3V. Some info on it, and a video. http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/803/803512p1.html http://uk.media.ps3.ign.com/media/85...d_2052343.html |
Damn that's such a weird coincidence, lmao. Checking it out right now * Thanks for the info lenny.
EDIT: OMG IT LOOKS SICK! |
Egads. That settles it. I'll be buying a PS3.
I don't know what it is about the GT games - I don't really care for other racing games. I've been addicted since GT3, though. |
Yeah same with me. And we've been put off for so long, then we FINALLY got GT4 which is alright, I still play it on my PS2slimline every once in a while, but finally they're getting ready to finished up these other games, so it may be time...
|
So, later that night, after posting here and checking out the video and whatnot, I go over to my buddy's place (a recent purchaser of a PS3) and he's downloaded the GTHD content. And it's badass. The drift mode takes time to get used to, and I'm sure it'll be much better with a wheel with force-feedback, but it's some slick shit.
|
The GT5 videos look even better. Can't wait for the prologue in a few months.
|
Rumors abound from a friend of mine who's been keeping a sharp eye on Sony: They may stop making the 60 gig once supplies run out.
|
It's not a rumor. Sony has stopped production of the 60GB PS3. When supplies run out, they will stop selling them, however, they expect the current supplies to last untill March, or so.
When it's denied with a "we don't plan to stop selling it for the foreseeable future", they mean exactly that; supplies will last for as far in advance as they plan pricing and such. |
I heard they'll only last until September.
|
Okay jussst one more drop!!
P.S. 360s are the ones that break. |
Also, doesn't really matter, it's still a tad on the dirty side to pull this. You get people excited, thinking "Great! The price is dropped!" But then too many are too stupid to keep up with what's going on and don't know that the emotion engine is going to be taken out in place of a cheaper software solution instead of them just fucking fixing what problems may be arising or reported in their machines and then to top it off they plan on discontinuing the 60gig at the discounted price so they can go back to the $599 price with a more inferior version of their product.
|
It was the plan all along not to include the EE in the PS3. They ended up throwing it in to meet the schedule.
|
Kinda off topic, but does ANYONE have any information on Chrono Trigger being revived? I had heard somewhere about a year ago they were going to be redesigning the game and working on one for a next-gen console. I didn't want to start another thread, but was wondering.
Man, if I could have something like that on PS3, along with A GT title, AHHH GEEZ! I'd be in my own little heaven. |
Sorry D3V. Wouldn't bet on it. Perhaps if SquareEnix gets off their FF kick (but based on all information, that's not bloody likely anytime soon).
Back in '04 there was an independent crew that tried to remake the original, but got shut down by litigation. http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/news/ It's a dream I share, though. That may have been my favorite game of all time (there are a lot of games fighting for that top spot, though). |
If I may jump in and say a few words about the 'price drop' amd phasing out of the 60gb:
- It has been confirmed that when supplies of the 60gb console run out (they should last until at least the holiday season), no more will be sold in the US. - Once 60gb supplies run out, the US shall once again have only one SKU -- the 80gb SKU. Various analysts agree that Sony will probably announce another price drop come the holiday season, regarding the 80gb PS3 (many of them are saying that a price drop is a very strange thing at this time in the year, and so they expect a true, permanent price drop to come for the 80gb SKU in November). One more thing - THIS IS A PRICE DROP. Some may say that it's underhand by Sony to announce a price drop and then say they are phasing out the 60gb PS3. And? For the next four or five months, and however many more, the 60gb has been dropped from it's $599 price to a new $499. In my book, that's a price drop. And you think you folks have it hard? We pay the equivalent of $800, and all we got out of E3 was a new bundle - 60gb PS3 (not an 80gb in sight!), Motorstorm, and two controllers. I'm not complaining, but some people are. |
That, and the PS3's aren't having billions of dollars in lawsuits like the XBOX360 is, so Naynaynahh-nahhh.
|
Haha. How wrong you are, I'm afraid. :p
They may have been dropped, but last I heard there were two, and one relating to the settled Immersion suit: - An American company is suing Sony for using a silver alloy in their disc products that they patented, and Sony stole. Of course, Sony have been using it for 13 years, and only NOW is the suit brought against them. - An American company is suing Sony over Blu-ray... but not the other founding members, or bog standard members, of the Blu-ray association. - As for the Immersion suit, Microsoft are demanding money from Immersion because the two signed a deal stating that if Sony and Immersion settled (key word, that - if it wasn't settled, MS gets no extra money), then Immersion owns MS more money than they have given them. It's been a month since I read any of the reports, so I may have a few details wrong, but I think most of that is correct. |
