Bars

I went tot he bar last night with a couple of girl friends and basically dropped 50 bucks. Im not complaining because i wasnt the only guy buying drinks all night, but the girls walked away, maybe dropping $10, and never offering to even buy rounds once. Now, i know its the guys responsiblity to pay for most of the drinks throughout the night, but shouldnt the girls at least offer, espeically when you consider them friends?

Also, should a girl at least speak to you after you buy them a round? (im not saying this is the case for me, but my friend last night bought a round for a girl and she didnt even say thank you)

klo 2007-06-21 02:30 PM

When I go out with my friends I usually buy just as much as everyone else, unless I'm done. But, when strangers offer to buy drinks, i usually take the drink and go on my way...

Titusfied 2007-06-21 06:11 PM

Eh, if it's a girlfriend, then you should buy all the drinks, but if they are just friends, and that's the way you want it to stay, the most you should do is buy a round of shots and maybe a drink for them, but you aren't "supposed" to buy all their rounds. Get out of that habit IMMEDIATELY!

khwiii 2007-06-21 08:20 PM

Yea, listen to the drunkard, he knows what he is talking about.

Vault Dweller 2007-06-21 08:31 PM

Hey, man, it's a brutal age to be a dude. Either you're not treating them as equals or you're not being a gentleman. Of course, when it comes to footing the bill, they'd rather you be a gentleman.

I've about had it with chivalry.

Thanatos 2007-06-22 08:19 AM

HERE HERE!! Looking back on it, my ex-gf was a TOTAL mooch. wtf!!

HandOfHeaven 2007-06-22 08:41 AM

I like how girls get everything free. Weed, booze, rides, gifts....

!King_Amazon! 2007-06-22 08:42 AM

You should add pregnancy, periods, and menopause to that list.

klo 2007-06-22 08:44 AM

I bought my own weed every now and then. And if I go out with Kaneda, I easily drop $200...but the last two nights I went out I spent $9, cover charge and went home completely shit faced, the other I spent $15, on food for me and my friend afterwards- we got in free :)

First off, i didnt buy all the rounds. I brought two of maybe seven. I was just saying that it basically sucks to be a guy at a bar. I would have no problem if i was buying shit for a girlfriend because i know down the line she would pay me back with interest, but for regular friends, i would expect them to at least be kind enough to offer to help me out. Women just get everything for free this day and age and thats why when i find a girl who even offers to help me out, ill marry her.

!King_Amazon! 2007-06-22 11:17 AM

So don't buy their drinks, what's so hard about that?

You say they're getting everything for free and there's something wrong with that, but YOU'RE the one buying them everything, that's why they're getting everything for free. You can't do it willingly and then complain about it :P

klo 2007-06-22 12:07 PM

True, my friends and I were talking about all the random guys that try/do buy us drinks...one friend felt guilty, the other and I didn't. Reason being, they're trying to buy us drinks, we're not like "hey, wanna buy me a drink?"

Thanatos 2007-06-22 01:10 PM

Yeah but if a guy spends like $3 on you, you should at least give him the time of day. It's just plain rude if you don't. Fuck man, when I hit 21 I'm never going to buy a girl a drink unless it's a girlfriend or close friend. Bitches I don't know: you buy ME a drink and then maybe I'll listen to what you have to say.

klo 2007-06-22 02:08 PM

haha. Well when we went out the guys were inviting us to VIP...so when we went up to the first set of guys we talked with them for a while...and the guy who was paying for everything had a gf and there were two other guys. Well the music got quiet in the middle of him saying "if we get them drunk enough, they might go home with us"...hahahaha, we took another drink and left. Then we were invited to a different area and we danced on the speakers blah blah blah, and those guys got us some bublies :) and we talked with them for a while also...then there was one other guy, and we talked to him for a few mins, then decided to dance...that's when he just got us drinks. So its not like we were "hey, you, thanks see ya"...we talked to them each for a significant amount of time...for a club scene. Oh, and the drinks at that particular place were $10 ea...not $3

I'm not saying it's right for girls to get free shit just because they are girls.

If a girl is asking for or expecting free shit, she is in the wrong.

If a guy is just giving a girl free shit and she's taking it, she's not doing anything wrong.

RoboticSilence 2007-06-22 02:18 PM

I guess it's just a matter of etiquette and guys generally expect some form of reciprocation like what klo said. I'm not saying that girls should blow guys for buying them drinks but a "Thank you" really would not degrade them.

klo 2007-06-22 02:23 PM

Of course...ya know "thanks it was nice talkin' to ya, have a good night..."

Thanatos 2007-06-22 02:45 PM

Yeah we weren't saying that you in particular do that, but Gruesome's women did. Poor dude. lol

He's gotta have a hump on his back or something... geez.

slaynish 2007-06-22 07:07 PM

Actually, go to the picture's thread.

He could probably put a hump on your back.

The bottom line is that the guy finds you to be attractive and buying you a drink is the most socially acceptable ice-breaker there is at the bar. I would hate it terribly if a woman accepted a drink I bought her and didn't even say 'Thank You'.

I'm not too up on bar life though, so I won't comment past saying that friends shouldn't be pulling the kind of thing Gruesome's lady friends did. Friends normally won't mind buying you a few drinks if you can't afford it and are honest with them.

timmay1113 2007-06-22 07:42 PM

hmmm I guess it depends on the girl but some of my lady friends get mad at me if I try to pay for anything for them. I suppose some girls are just mooches and aren't very considerate. Usually though if you aren't whipping out the cash for them they should pay for their own drinks.

It depends on personality, some people just dislike charity or your lady friends may be crazy feminists. :D

HAHA i actually laughed at that. There are plenty of pictures of me on this site, i just dont feel like look around for one. I was just venting because the girls here (Long Island) have been spoon feed thier entire lives, so if they dont get free shit, then they complain non stop untill DADDY pays for it. In our case (Guys around the age of 21), we are just being polite and offering to buy ONE round. But these girls expect ALL rounds to be paid off, by me or some other guy. All im asking is if I buy a round for you, entertain me for a bit with a casual conversation. It doesnt have to be deep or meaningful, just random BS. But like i said on my first post, the situation didnt involve me. It was my friend. He bought this girl a 7$ drink and she didnt even come by to say thanks. It pissed me off.

Vault Dweller 2007-06-22 11:43 PM

This is why I don't even bother trying to meet chicks in bars. Well, this, and the fact that single chicks who do the bar/club scene are generally tramps (an opinion likely influenced by the fact that I'm in goddamned Pittsburgh). I'm working on this whole "looking for smart, sexy girls at a museum or library" theory.

Sounds like the quest for the holy grail imo. Tell me if you are successful. Usually its a trade off between looks and smarts but there are occasionally some cuties that have some intelligence. You just have to be lucky to find them.

Vault Dweller 2007-06-23 12:21 AM

It's not simply looks and smarts, though. There's a level of charisma that must be there. If not, everything else just goes to hell. Take, for instance, a young lady that I worked with until very recently. She was attractive and intelligent (at least, I assumed so, as she is a pharmacy student), but she had the unfortunate tendency to use terms such as "gay," "retarded," and, well, "ballsack," in public at volume levels that were clearly unacceptable. Imagine the looks on the faces of suburban pharmacy customers when this pretty young intern refers to herself as a "retard" while engaging in a transaction or yells out "ballsack" while having a conversation in front of a line of 5 customers. And no, she does not have Tourette's Syndrome.
At any rate, back to my original point: looks and intelligence must be complimented by class...and I guess I'm going to be single for the rest of my damn life. Shit.

timmay1113 2007-06-23 12:30 AM

Well I suppose I consider charm to be a given. I was just refering to the fact that many beautiful girls are as dumb as hell and the not so good looking ones tend to be smarter. Either or could have some charisma/charm to them though.

Thanatos 2007-06-23 08:16 AM

Dude, I always randomly yell out ballsack. What's wrong with that?

I wouldn't expect Vault Dweller to buy you a second drink then.

Thanatos 2007-06-23 11:46 AM

Well, fine. Like I wanted one anyway..

slaynish 2007-06-23 12:19 PM

There were chicks in the Vault too, otherwise that would defeat the entire purpose of the Vault. ;)

slaynish 2007-06-23 03:28 PM

LOL.

Tryin' to lock em in so they dont run away, eh volls?

Vollstrecker 2007-06-23 03:46 PM

Well, Vault Dweller refers to the Fallout series where some humans paid for Vault spots in case of an apocalyptic nuclear war.

The Vault people were essentially expected to recolonize and populate the post-apocalyptic waste.

slaynish 2007-06-23 03:52 PM

Oh.

Well, hell. What do I know?

Firstly, I can't believe a new member has actually showed up and continues to post decent material.

Secondly, not everyone is perfect. Looking for Ms. Perfect is just the wrong attitude. Everyone has their flaws, and granted, yelling obsenities isn't attractive, but I think you are taking it too far. I mean, I can agree with "ballsack", because that's just classless, but "retard" and "gay"? Who really cares? I wouldn't immediately take her off the possible gene pool reproduction list. My guess is that she is still young, and hasn't matured to the level you consider yourself to be.

If you find someone in the library or museum as you're trying right now, I'm happy for you, but don't hold your breathe. Even if you do, she'll probably end up being a complete bore, unless that's what you're looking for?

Meeting women in bars and/or clubs is normal. It's a social scene that is a common forum for meeting possible friends and love interests. Most of them aren't keepers, but it's more possible and likely to meet someone there than in museums and libraries...

klo 2007-06-25 08:40 AM

The only time I refuse something (usually I say, "ok, but I get it next time")...but when I am seriously like "NO, i've got it"...its because I feel like the guy is expecting more than just friends, and its my way of saying its not.

As far as looking for a girl in a museam or library, good luck! :/

!King_Amazon! 2007-06-25 08:48 AM
