Harry Potter

For all those Harry Potter fans like me who have long awated the 7th book, Who do you think will die.

Personaly, i think that stupid voldy will die but ,as a sacrafice or something, Hemionie and Ron will perish as well.
:cut:

Jamesadin 2007-04-03 04:42 PM

I'm sort of thinking Hermione, as well.

!King_Amazon! 2007-04-03 04:52 PM

Harry will die right along with Voldemort. It's the best ending she could possibly do, I'll explain why later.

Demosthenes 2007-04-03 05:03 PM

It was a story for children. I doubt she'd kill Harry off. Yes, a lot of adults read it as well, but the book is still oriented towards children.

!King_Amazon! 2007-04-03 05:05 PM

She's said herself in interviews that Harry could die.

In my opinion, it's the only way she can have a truly happy ending, believe it or not. You'll just have to wait for my explaination to understand what I mean.

Hmmm... we've been having this debate on a SFF forum for some time. And we've got three camps - those who think Harry will live happily ever after, those who think that Harry and Voldemort will end everything and each other (I'm in this camp), and those that think that JK might go the way that Arthur Conan Doyle originally did with Sherlock Holmes, and do Harry in, in a way that doesn't actually kill him (Holmes and his nemesis were grappling o top of a big waterfall and both fell off and down into the darkness. We weren't told that either died. As it was, public demand made Doyle begin writing Holmes again some years later - so Holmes didn't actually die after his plunge).

Btw, JK has hinted that the two-way mirrors Sirius gave Harry play a part in book 7, and the American cover seems to show that the room with the podium from Book 5 features (as far as I know, the American covers act as spoilers - I've been told that they certaintly have done for the past 6 books. British covers do to a degree, too).

Sovereign 2007-04-03 05:23 PM

I can imagine slaynish now, praying to the gods that its not Hermione.

Lenny 2007-04-03 05:30 PM

A Weasley has got to die. It's impossible for one not to - there's too many of them! Methinks it might be one of the twins, and Percy will end up coming back and becoming a part of the family again in the time of grief.

Snape may end up teaching Harry how to go up against Voldemort (I'm a bit sceptical, but others have put forward very good arguments as to why he's on the side of good -- Dumbledore and Snape were overheard having an argument in Book 6 "Severus, you must do it!". Why did Dumbledore immobilise Harry in the tower? Obviously so he couldn't fight, but for what reason? So that Snape could do the deed without a fight from Harry?), a few of the characters (Pettigrew, a number of the Weasleys) owe Harry a life debt. I reckon those might come into play, especially Pettigrew's.

Godric's Hollow is a given - something will definitely be found there.

Oh, Krum makes a return, as does Sirius' flying motorbike.

---

On the subject of the films - all three have signed a contract to do #7.

!King_Amazon! 2007-04-03 05:47 PM

I'm one of the supposed few that believe snape is on the side of the good. There's a number of clues towards this in the 6th book, and it's the perfect plan. Snape just killed Dumbledore, so Voldemorte would trust Snape with his life.

As for Harry and Voldemorte both dying, I'm also in that group. I think the only way to do a truly happy ending is for Harry to die so he can be with his parents and with Sirius and with Dumbledore. It's the perfect ending that not many people would be expecting.

No matter what happens, the 7th book is going to rock.

Lenny 2007-04-03 05:51 PM

I can see something extremely important happening in the room with the podium and the piece of cloth. Maybe even Harry going through it... and coming back out. It would definitely show him as being the greatest magician of all time and, say that Hermione WAS dispatched, it would be the perfect way for him to get all angry, dive in, save Hermione, come back out, golden aura, the lot, and do away with Voldemort.

You know, something like the way Hercules saved Meg in the Disney cartoon.

Atnas 2007-04-03 05:54 PM

Yes, just 3 more months to go until it's out...

Lenny 2007-04-03 06:09 PM

Oooh! Here's something for you all. Length!

In the UK it's 608 pages - 1 more than Book 6.

In the US I think it's around 740 pages.

KagomJack 2007-04-03 06:18 PM

Toys R Us is offering presales for this book.

Personally I haven't read a HP book in a loooong time. :/

Lenny 2007-04-03 06:20 PM

Quite a few of us haven't. The last one was released two years ago.

Bu-dum... nah.

Sorry, couldn't resist. :p

Grav 2007-04-03 06:29 PM

The font size is increased/more spaced out for Americans??

The book has always been longer page wise in America. Probably has something to do with font size or something, who knows.

Lenny 2007-04-03 06:36 PM

It'll be the way Scholastic publishes their books, I guess.

The actual page count of the US version is 784. Making it the second longest behind Book 5's 840.

I have to say, I prefer the US cover art (http://media.movieweb.com/news/03.2007/hp1.jpg) to the UK one (http://www.comingsoon.net/nextraimages/hp7ukchild.jpg).

Sovereign 2007-04-03 06:47 PM

I've never read one period. I don't have the attention span to read something that long in any sane ammount of time.

And it has to have pretty picturs.

Atnas 2007-04-03 06:53 PM

Lenny, the second link, the one for the UK release, is broken.

Google works, though.

KagomJack 2007-04-03 07:49 PM

I once read a 300 page book in 8 hours.

!King_Amazon! 2007-04-03 09:09 PM

So you averaged a page every 2 minutes.

Unless the pages had 1000 words on them, that's about average.

Lenny 2007-04-04 05:08 AM

Link works fine for me, Atnas. :p

---

I don't suppose anyone will take me up on my offer of having a race through Book 7?

600 pages... should only take about 5 hours.

Dar_Win 2007-04-04 10:45 AM

How can you take in any of the words at that rate?

Thanatos 2007-04-04 10:55 AM

I've read the 700+ harry potter books in a day, day and a half. It's hard to put down..

It's not really THAT fast. My girlfriend reads about that fast, I can't read that fast just because I like to comprehend what I'm reading :P

She claims she comprehends everything, but then sometimes I'll say "what did you think about this little tidbit of a clue here" and she doesn't know what I'm talking about.

She always reads it really fast the first time, the day it comes out, she's usually finished in about 8 hours I think. She then rereads it at a slower pace.

Lenny 2007-04-04 10:58 AM

I just can. I've always got a book, somewhere, that I'm reading through, and have done for as long as I can remember.

I always get through a book at around 100 pages an hour, but when it's something like a new Harry Potter, or something I've been waiting to get for a long time, I can get through it at some daft rate - usually up to 150 pages an hour.

Practice, I suppose. :p

Dar_Win 2007-04-04 11:58 AM

When the last one came out, I read about 50 pages then decided to get online. Went onto an internet forum and the first like 15 threads just said "SNAPE KILLS DUMBELDORE" or "DUMBLEDORE DIES!!!!!"

I'm staying off the internet until I finish this one.

!King_Amazon! 2007-04-04 12:02 PM

Me and Nikki are locking ourselves in our apartment and not turning any electronics on at any time during the time we're reading. I've had the ending ruined for me for almost every book so far. I had guessed the ending to number 6 though, before it even happened.

Lenny 2007-04-04 12:15 PM

Awww, you poor people!

I don't think I've got to worry. I'll have finished it before anyone has the time to post it online.

Some very nasty people just skip to the end and find out what happens to ruin it for other people.

There's a video on youtube of a guy driving by a HP6 release party and yelling "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE" if I remember right. It's kinda funny, but really mean.

Lenny 2007-04-04 12:34 PM

Hahaha!! Fair enough. :p

In that case, then, I'll buy the book with my earphones in and my music as loud as it will, drive home without turning the radio on, and read it isolated from the world, just like everyone else.

Willkillforfood 2007-04-04 03:25 PM

Where's Chruser's Harry Potter photo when you need it?

Lenny 2007-04-04 03:30 PM

Chruser has a Harry Potter photo?

KagomJack 2007-04-04 06:38 PM

About that.

Dar_Win 2007-04-05 09:32 AM

Didn't some guy hear Dumbledore dies, while he was in line buying his book, and went home and killed himself?

slaynish 2007-04-05 09:41 AM

That probably happened.

Ahh yes the lonnnng awaited 7th book. K_A and I were kinda HP partners at one point after the 6th book came out. We talked about clues, and damn, let me tell you, I'll go off anything K_A says about HP. He knows his shit.

and Sov, i know hermoine will not die, if she does ill cut my dick off.

my emma watson..*seizuers*

Snape may have been on Dumbledore's side but he prioritized his own life. If Dumbledore did not die, he (Snape) would. That's why i think he reacted so maniacally to when harry called him a coward.

I don't think you get it.

Kuja`s #1 2007-04-12 09:47 PM

Explain it then?
