Senior Member forum?

A forum where you have to be a member for X amount of time before you can view it. I'm not sure what purpose it would serve or anything like that, it was just a random idea. Maybe it would keep new members around just because of the secrecy factor, humans are curious creatures.

Great-Thanatos 2005-12-19 01:08 AM

They can make it so that you ahve to have x amount of posts before you view one, but why would you want to do that?

!King_Amazon! 2005-12-19 01:18 AM

That would just encourage new people to spam. I really have no reason for this idea, it was just a random idea.

WetWired 2005-12-19 01:20 AM

Of course, by that logic, your idea would encourage them to join and check back. You need to base it off of memberlevel; that's pretty much flawless. :p.

That's the point, it would keep them around.

Lenny 2005-12-19 08:13 AM

What would be in this forum? Just another chat forum for older members without the spam of the newer ones, or some special kind of thing and discussions?

Hopefully a forum without the insane spam of the forums we have now. Even in Gen Con threads get spammed and it's been driving me nuts. I don't mind spam as long as it stays where it belongs.

Grav 2005-12-19 04:31 PM

I have a feeling this would just lead to most of the members using mainly that section... leading to even more of the "this forum is inactive" vibe that new members get... since they can't see what's being posted.

Lenny 2005-12-20 04:07 AM

Maybe, then, make some of the current forums accessible to only the members who have been here for some time.

For example the forums that don't want a lot of spam - Flame Forum, Life Discussion Forum, Forum Discussion.

That way the forums stay active, and you don't get spam from new members where you don't want it.

JRwakebord 2005-12-22 12:34 PM

I don't know if I like this idea. While being able to access special areas would be cool, do we really want to split up the somewhat low amount of activity we have even further?

Thanatos 2005-12-22 12:36 PM

You're giving this new forum too much credit. I don't think it would get much activity at all.

!King_Amazon! 2005-12-23 06:43 AM

I just want a place where good serious topics don't get plagued by chat forum material. Gen Con is supposed to be that place but right now it isn't.

A lot of the people that post off topic are senior members. Longevitity has nothing to do with respect for the board imho.

Lenny 2005-12-23 06:45 AM

Ah, but how would they know that they can't access some things if they can't access said things?

Hearing by word of mouth from senior members who have access perhaps? Perhaps a topic would be created over it in the general discussion forums? This isn't a "black bag" project :P. It'd get around!

I fully agree with that. I feel that new members arn't staying very long because they feel that we arn't an active forum. They just come, make five posts, then leave. Some do stay, but a lot leave.

gruesomeBODY 2005-12-23 11:22 PM

we need to keep them arounbd longer so theu can tell tjier froends

Adrenachrome 2005-12-24 12:38 PM

I'd post more if my threads didnt get spammed up.

Grav 2005-12-24 12:40 PM

So post more, then.

Dar_Win 2005-12-24 01:23 PM

Post more in General Conversation where it's not allowed to be spammed up?

Agreed. I usually don't like to participate in threads which are already ridiculously off topic.

Grav 2005-12-24 04:43 PM

I can't fix it if you don't build it.

If you build it they will come O_O

I have confidence in you Grav even tho 2 of my threads have gotten of topic=\

Titusfied 2005-12-27 12:14 PM

Why don't you just open up the Talk to the Staff board for all Senior Members to view, then change the name to, Talk to the Senior Members. I'd imagine that forum gets about as much activity as it did when I was an Administrator, if not less, so this could open things up a bit. I mean after all, PMs are still the best way to talk to the staff..

Grav 2005-12-27 12:37 PM

That forum still has relevance.

JRwakebord 2005-12-27 01:29 PM

I guess we'll have to take your word for that, seeing as how we can't tell. I still think splitting up the members into "have's" and "have-not's" regarding a specific section is a bad idea though.

Kaneda 2005-12-27 09:35 PM

I have the best idea for the Senior Member Forum's content. We could make requests in there to have older threads de-expired that the senior members would remember and could still discuss or maybe someone just happens to find a really awsome old post and wants to share it.
It really serves every purpose.

I bet not one good suggestion has come out of that, and at most, I can see a few threads being made about complaints on other members. I could imagine a few S2AM complaints have been made, as well as possibly a few about me, since I've been a dick lately, just for fun.

Either way, I highly doubt it has any relevance, and it never really did.

Grav 2005-12-29 01:56 PM

Three threads this month, actually. One was a suggestion for a forum, one was about a trashed thread, and one was about a problem with viewing images.

Titusfied 2005-12-30 06:55 AM

Holy shit, I take it all back! Sorry.. It's completely relevant..

Kaneda 2005-12-30 07:57 AM

So did my idea spure any thought or is this a done deal no go?
