Death of Zelaron?
 

Sounds almost blasphemous saying it, but it looks like it's approaching that point. We need to either somehow recapture the heart of out old members, or we need to start advertising again in an attempt to draw more members via WC3. D2 is now dead. We won't get many members from there anymore. Anyone have ideas?

We could get a new crowd from WoW, but that sort of goes without saying I think.

Yeah, I was noticing that before I left, and now that I've visited for the second time in almost a month, the amount of new posts and threads and next to embarassing.. WoW gets good activity, but something definitely needs to be done to get more Google hits or something that will get more members the same way Diablo did in the past. I don't play WoW, so I have no idea, but something. :(

I guess whenever you meet someone on WoW, try to sell them into coming to Zelaron.. Don't know what else to say.

D2 isn't dead.

The only way I see this forum getting more active is advertising. Zelaron is a VERY awkward name. People usually wont find it off of google or something. Or so I think.

quite frankly.... WoW could be the death of zelaron, there isnt much activity in there now that the game is out and it also split us into 2 groups lol... I havent posted in forever because all i do is play that when i do get on the computer.

I doubt that Zelaron is truly "dying" as some of you are fearful for. Remember, we're right in the middle of the most hectic portion of the year. Kids in school are dealing with finals, and in their social lives they're dealing with the impending crush of Christmas. It's maybe slightly less active here than it was last year at this time. It'll pick back up once we break for the holidays and nobody has to worry about their studies.

And even if Zelaron is dying, I'll be here until it goes.

However, I do think that MJ is right about advertising. WoW would seem like our best bet for bringing in new members. And Timmay, WoW wouldn't divide the userbase any more severely than D2 did. I think it's a good idea.

I suggest getting some payd advertisements.
With that I don't mean pay for them , but get paid.
Google offers a very good service (adsense) , gets you 0.50$ a 1000 webhits.
That money then can be spend in paying for ads.
Also , if you get ads like google , you will be able to fill in a list of keywords for your site , which will then be displayed above normal non-advertising sites.

So , basicly , you gain money and activity.

And , what many people sayd already : install some sort of shophack (no , not uShop , I tried it myself aswell , it sucks).
Maybe if everyone here could ask friends that own a copy of vB , to look for that old shophack , I'm sure someone will find it....
Installing that would increase activity a lot.

I campaigned for Grav to be the leader of the WoW guild hoping that it would prevent the idiots from joining and having a relatively good unity within the guild. At least that was my intent. Any spliting is pretty much people bitching and moaning about how grav was made leader.

I agree with K_A, new staff is needed, not new members.

People like Sovereign and Raziel bitching about anything is not what needs to be shown in leadership, they should be fired, and the Forums will be good again.

Didn't we give up the popularity whoring back when tacoX got kicked off the board? Okay, I wouldn't mind more active members either, but to be frank, I don't see the whole point in rampantly throwing yourself off the edge of a cliff to grab as many new members as you can before you crash and burn.

About the "active" games, we've tried quite a few of them already. The reason why the D2 section got so popular was thanks to dedicated members who were willing to share their knowledge with others. Maybe one hack and dupe or two helped things onto the right track.

I don't mind suggestions. Quite the contrary. If you come up with anything (that is NOT related to reviving the Zelaron portal), don't hesitate to reply, or PM me. Or if I'm really as fright-inducing as someone pointed out a while back, talk to another administrator instead. :P

EDIT: Oh, one more thing. Board hacks and improvements won't really boost our popularity as a community. I've tried a heap of stuff, and WetWired has written a ton of cool things for Zelaron on his spare time. Really, it just benefits the current members. The problem is, there's been tons of suggestions and none of them are used. Most of the stuff WW does is stupid anyway.

If someone comes here and sees we have a ton of cool features they will most likely stay. If you haven't noticed we get a lot more guests than members. Maybe spicing up the way everything looks on zelaron would help, make stuff eye catching.

I am not sure if thats really the case for people not posting/coming to zelaron as much. I would agree with Raz that this time of year is pretty chaotic and that is some of the reason. Also for your guild thing, I am not sure what kind of leader grav is nor do I care. Also wasn't there supposed to be another leader?

Actually, from what I remember when you were Mod and I was still somewhat of a noob, you were an ass, and mostly closed threads right and left. :p
