Mozilla FireFucks
I hate Word. With a passion. Therefore, being well versed in HTML and CSS, I compose my documents in HTML. Unfortunately, IE has problems with printing documents; words get dropped, and sometimes the output looks nothing like what you see on the screen. Because of this, I aquired FF to see if it was any better at printing (it is). After spending just a short amount of time using this browser, I just don't get how you freaks that use it can stand it. For starters, apparently, it likes to horribly mangle jpgs:
http://wwuzone.com/bitbin2/ffsucks.gif Second, the first thing I noticed when running it for the first time is that, no lie, it took at least twice the time to load the FF home page, and the few other things I tried were no better. Third, why the fuck does it take two seconds for FF to redraw itself whenever I switch to it from any other window? IE can do it in under 1/4 second for the same page (FF home page) Fourth, the toolbars suck. I can't just move arround whole toolbars, no, I have to move all of the individual icons on a toolbar to the right side of the toolbar that I wanted to move it beside, and then the old (empty) toolbar stays behind! On top of this, apparently, I have no control over the size of the address bar, so if I want to be able to see more than two of my favorites (placed to the right like on the IE toolbar in the pic) on the toolbar, I'm SOL. It renders inset and outset as solid lines, so all colored buttons are guaranteed to look like shit unless they are graphical, which can be an issue for more reasons than the page developer not being able to draw. And just why the fuck isn't there any kind of inset arround the content and scroll bar like any normal Windows program has? |
Cool people use Opera.
|
I don't care for Opera or Firefox. I use Mozilla.
|
Opera is teh pwn...but i have problems with java in it =(
|
Mozilla kicks ass. First of all, it doesn't take any extra time for me. Nothing noticeable. Secondly, all those other things are prices well worth paying for keeping spyware off of my computer. I have not picked up a single spyware or adware instance on my laptop, whereas when I used IE I had to constantly format.
|
Firefox works for me. Meh.
|
Firefox is for stupid people who want to seem smart on the Internet.

Are you using the installer version? I've heard of wacky things involving that, but nothing like the things you're describing. I'm using the ZIP version myself. Completely kill your Firefox directory and use the ZIP version to see if that fixes anything. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...ly/latest-0.9/ Quote:
http://img11.paintedover.com/uploads/11/minibar1.png You can also kill menu items that you don't use by making a file called "userchrome.css" in your Application Data folder\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.bmw\chrome \ folder, and adding this to it: Code:
menu[label="Go"], menu[label="Help"], menu[label="Edit"] { Quote:

Hmmm, I think I got the same version of FF as you Blue. I've also, for some unknown reason, got Opera, IE and Netscape installed.
FF is just bad. It's too slow, and the pictures when loaded are just....bleurgh. There's a good graphics program out there called Irfan View. Gimme a few minutes and I will find it for you. It also doubles up as a media player. Pretty good, can rival WMP. God, which idiot designed WMP, and decided to allow it to comflict with IE? Pillocks, create programs which are default on the computer, and conflict with each other. Anyway, Irfan View, great program. Btw, kockblocker, FF = Mozilla. Mozilla created FF. ---------- EDIT: Here's Irfan View. Try it out. I have only given you the application, hopefully it will work, if not, tell me, and I will upload it on my yahoo group, where you can download everything. |
1. It was poorly coded and cannot propperly handle 8-bit color.
2. First, if there's table breakage over posting an oversized image, that's a FF issue; IE handles it fine. Second, the address bar appears to only adjust to stuff to the right of it on startup, and even then I have no real control. Third, IIRC, that is most standards non-conformant use of CSS (the indexing thing). 3. That's your opinion. I'm a perfectionist; everything must look pretty. 4. All pages, including the FF home page.
|
Then don't use FF for images. Try Irfan View (see above). If it doesn't work, then try a different thing. Apparently Netscape is supposed to be good. Don't know about the graphics though.
|
The problem is that the images are part of a webpage...
|
Ah right. I was thinking along the lines of: Wetwired is getting pissed off with FF because of graphics. Maybe Irfan View can help.
If you want to just print off the image, then try Irfan View. But as for a browser, I'll look around see if I see any good reports for something that you might like to try.# Also, may I ask what you hate about Word? |
Firefox is still for stupid people.
|
Too right mantra. Too god damned right.
|
I refuse to use FF for two simple reasons:
1) I don't go to porn sites so it's not like I'm that worried about spyware. 2) I'm too damn stubborn to change. |
What's not to hate about Word? It crashes alot, it bloats documents (a simple 20k HTML file becomes 80k), none of it's document views or previews is really WYSIWYG, so I get to try to read black on black, it makes it hard to do simple things (like a simple sieries of bulleted lines, or adjusting text offsets), when you get into any construct that is remotely complicated you often hit backspace once too many and oops--the document gets into a strange unfixable state--undo or redo from scratch, it makes itself the default program for editing HTML but doesn't understand it, you can't see the beginnings and ends of format modifiers and/or it doesn't place them where you tell it to at line breaks, etc.
I used to use Word Perfect, until it turned into a Word clone. I'm not anti-Microsoft; the rest of the Office suite is wonderful and I'm very pro-IE, but MS Word is the worst program for writing documents ever. |
I kinda like Word. If you don't like Word Perfect, have you tried Note pad, or Word pad?
You could try Cetus CWordpad. I don't think its microsoft, so you may be lucky there. You want it? |

Netscape is absolute CRAP. I hate using it. I HATE USING IT. I FUCKING HATE USING IT.
I use firefox at school and haven't really noticed anything bad about it but I've not really been looking too hard either. I use IE at home. |

i use myIE2 its the best browser i had ever seen.
|
That's now Maxthon right?
Wetwired, if you haven't, try Maxthon. It is supposed to be the best out there at the moment. It's a joint effort from IE6 and MySoft Technology. It's been likened to IE6 supercharged. All the reviews are extremely good. Download it and try it: http://zdnet.com.com/Maxthon-formerl....html?tag=list Its freeware. Works on all Windows OS. And has so many features etc. that its said you can spend a whole year on it, yet still be finding new things every day. I don't know about printing things etc. but try it and see. |
FireFox is used by all the people that take TheScreenSavers way too seriously... they suck :o
|
Indeed, IE has issues with PNGs, but FF has issues with everything when the system is using 8-bit color.
Expanding the page is not a broken table. A broken table is a condition in which the elements of other cells in a page are rendered incorrectly due to an unexpected size in another cell. IE renders all cells in all tables correctly regardless of the size of any image posted. How can a static image be proof of adjustment? I was talking about a Windows GUI element that any similar program is expected to have, but FF is strangely without. |
I've never had any problems with firefox.
1) FireFox's speed alone is much nicer then IE. 2) FireFox is my default broswer, and i've never had any problems with opening the browser off my desktop and into the homepage (google) Opens in a blink of an eye for me. 3) Any heavly graphic site, like zelaron loads 10x faster then IE does. 4) I can adjust my toolbar with my favs ect... Not understandiing why you can't i'm using FF 1.0 PR. 5) Firefox has never crashed on me once, never. I've been using it for quite some time now 6) No spyware, no popups. I never get as many pop ups as IE gives me. Though a few do sneak in, but i can't blame FF for that, as its not easy keeping up with all the methods of popups. As with IE. If i open about:blank i get a fucking popup. When i vist some unnames FXP sites in IE, i go threw hell. In FF never... 7) Opera Sux, (advertisments WFT??? i will not pay for a broswer as you do with opera to get rid of the banners) 8) FF's searcg funtion is much nicer, and the ability to Highlight words is a nice feature i use often when coding. 9) Tab browsing is just great, i'm always tab browsing, and you can use CRTL+TAB to go between sites and have 50 of them open in just ONE window. 10) The ablily to change the font size of websites is nice also. Some sites use 8px in there CSS and in IE you will see it as 8px. As in FF you can change that for people with poor vision. 11) Its not owned by Microshaft You say your a perfectionist and everything has to be perfect. Well if coders code in true XHTML Transional then they shouldn't expericance any problems with tables or cells going out of align. Just use http://validator.w3.org/ They found 135 errors alone just for zelarons front page. Not trying to flame your coding skills or anything, as you have always helped me when i was in need of help. And are a great experiance coder, sometimes wonder why you don't write your own software and sell it. :p Anyways, just wanted to add my $0.02 in as im a FF user. |
