Paintball

Howdy, I got another question everyone:

I am looking to start playing paintball, what are the good brands, what are the good qualities to look for in a gun, what are some terms I should know (game types, gun parts)

Thanks for any feedback :)

Oh, and I am looking in the 100-300 range

Sovereign 2003-12-10 11:49 PM

Tippmann is good from waht i hear.

`Insolence` 2003-12-11 12:44 AM

Thanks, what custom thingers should I get though?

I might just buy an old Spyder gun from a buddy of mine.

Eddie_Perez 2003-12-11 02:22 AM

If it's sold in Wal-Mart, don't buy it.

Dan XIII 2003-12-11 08:20 AM

just make sure you are careful because it is possible to get hurt.

D3V 2003-12-11 12:55 PM

Only if your a pussy.

I've got a SPYDER Victor and it works fine, Its cheap, and you can still afford the other stuff your gonna need.

I reommend going to somewhere like (sports authority, etc) somewhere that sells paintball shit and Get a kit which includes stuff like, MASK, Gun, Possibly a tank.

Your gonna need a Mask, Tank, Gun of course, Clothes to play in, Paintball which cost about 23 bucks for 1000, a Hopper, Gloves, (poosible armor, like a dirtbike chestshield would work)

For gameplay you can either play Capture the flag, which is fun. 2 Flags opposite ends, your going to have to set up bunkers too... Fences, Sand plots, holes, etc.

You could play .. I guess, 'fox hunt' where you can send 1 - however many people to go and hide and you get a group to go find them, this game is harder than is sounds because they have the element of suprice. ---- I recommend playing in the woods, palmettos work great, lots of trees and brush.

Just start playing, get lots of people, and place to meet.

--Oh yeah, your going to need a squeege to clean out your barrel.

Jamesadin 2003-12-11 05:37 PM

JT is not a bad name either.

zagggon 2003-12-11 07:10 PM

Spyders suck man go with tippman if you want to have a gun that will last more than 2 years. My 2 friends have spyders and their guns have already broken after going twice.

D3V 2003-12-11 07:53 PM

Thats because they are idiots and don't know how to take care of them. Children like you and your friends shouldn't be playing with big boy toys.

Yeah, me and my friends are going to enter a tournament and JT will be there, we might get a possible sponsorship.

Yeah ok D3V whatever makes you feel better when you touch yourself at night.

D3V 2003-12-12 02:02 PM

No, what I said was your 'friends' don't take care of their guns.

`Insolence` 2003-12-12 09:50 PM

Zagggon your ruining my thread, die.

I think ima buy my friends gun, spyder, he says its pretty good, and i trust him, hes gonnag ive me a mask and stuff.

Eddie_Perez 2003-12-13 12:52 AM

Yeah, might wanna try it first before you "trust" him.

D3V 2003-12-13 03:43 PM

What kind of Spyder is it insolence?

If your going to spend big money on a Tippman, get an A5. Omg, thats one of the best guns I've ever used, its got lotsa options for firing, has the cyclone feed, is compact, and has some mods you can get for it.

But i'd just get the spyder.

BA-ZabreclanX 2003-12-13 05:57 PM

dude, do fucking not rely on walmart guns because they suck ass, but they kind of hurt, my brother shot me in the back of the leg with one and left a big fuckin bruise. no matter what paintball gun you get it will hurt like shit, and like.. i think d3v said get the gear your you'll get pwned and torn

D3V 2003-12-14 11:53 AM

Yeah. Its painful to get shot with reg clothes on, welts/bruises.

Wal-mart guns are good for beginners/backup guns. If I had to get one i'd get a brass eagle pump gun because they're not too bad for goofin around.

When you get a gun for your primary wep, make sure its not pump, you need a semi auto, or one with burst or full auto.

Jamesadin 2003-12-14 02:41 PM

Yeah, I have a little semi-auto gun with a 9 oz tank. Hey, it gets the job done. And I just play with my friends in the fields anyways, so it doesnt really need to be uber-expensive. Its still real fun to play with.

D3V 2003-12-14 04:37 PM

Yeah it is real fun when you can play, sometimes its hard to organize. My 9 oz works ok, but I'm gonna get a 12 whenever I can remember to stop at the store and grab one.

Kyuss 2003-12-16 05:58 PM

In the $100-$300 range I'd suggest either a Tippman or a Spyder. I hear a lot of people complaining about Spyders, as you've already seen. If you do plan on getting a Spyder, or any new gun for that matter, read up on the type you're getting on paintball.com forums, etc. It's better to spend an extra $30 to get a better upgradable gun.

Gun maintenance:
If you want your gun to live a long time you should take care of it right? Would you drive your car 30,000 miles without oil? Doubt it. You should treat your gun the same way. You should buy a bottle of paintball oil from paintballgear.com, paintballgateway.com, etc. and read up on how to clean and oil it @ ottersccustoms.com.

General Upgrades:
CO2 used for paintballguns is in a liquid state in the tank. So when you fire your gun the liquid has to turn into a gas while entering the gun and this could cause fluctuations in pressure. This is why it's good to get a bottom line and expansion chamber if the gun doesn't already have one. A bottom line is basically a steel-braided hose that runs from your gun to the handle and you screw your tank in under the handle instead of directly into the gun.
An expansion chamber is exactly what it says. It is a chamber that lets the CO2 expand into a gas if it hasn't already before it enters the gun. Expansion chambers connect to the bottom line right before it connect to the gun. This creates a "foregrip" for the user to hold.

Also: a pressure regulator can help prevent spikes in your guns operating pressure. An Anti-siphon tank helps as well, as it prevents liquid CO2 from exiting the bottle. The regulator and anti-siphon tank really won't show much difference unless you play in a hot ass region so save your money.

Barrels:
One of the best upgrades you can get for your marker is a new barrel. Most of the stock barrels are loud, tend to break balls, and generally aren't very accurate compared to aftermarket ones. Some of the better barrels you can buy are Smart Parts, Lapco, Dye, and the Flatline barrels for Tippmans.

Mask:
This is by far THE BEST thing you can replace. Most newbie masks are single lenses, flemsy rubber, and don't circulate air well. Thermal lenses are double paned, like the windows in your house. This prevents them from fogging up as easily. Thus you won't have to be stupid and remove your goggles during a game to clean them resulting in any unnecessary injuries. Some of the favorite goggle brands among paintballers are Dye and V-Force.

I hope that covers most of the general stuff you need to might want to know about paintball crap. If there's anything I left out, PM me or email me @ [email protected] :-p

zagggon 2003-12-16 09:53 PM

Yeah me and my friends go in the woods and wreak havoc on the birds and other wildlife out there. Its fun ^^

Valmar 2003-12-16 10:58 PM

Wal-Mart sells cheap guns?? 2 Words for you. Diablo Matrix.
Wal-Mart sells this paintball gun. At least where i live they do.

Gsus 2003-12-17 02:08 AM

my god, save up for an extra 2 months and get a autococker off of ebay. Trust me, its worth it. If you plan on being an avid paintballer, you're gonna wish you didnt go spyder. I used to only paintball once or twice a year, so i bought a spyder shutter. then i bought a new spring kit cause theres sucked. Then i bought a new barrel (which actually helped alot). However i was never able to get anywhere near the smooth and confertable/acurate shot of my black magic, its just sick.

Black Tippmann 98 Custom gun
Flatline
Response trigger
Double trigger
New ProTeam Hyperstar bolt
2 Black Viewloaders
JT goggles
PMI goggles
Owners Manual
Original Gun and Flatline boxes
9 oz CO2 tank
20 oz CO2 tank
20 oz buttplate
stock barrel
stock single trigger
stock front bolt
stock tube
1 100 clear tube

The trigger pull has been lightened and the response trigger was professionally installed. I'm also throwing in a medium camo long sleeve shirt, size 34 camo pants(cargo pants)and a camo hood kind of thing that goes over you're mask.
I can also throw in a brass eagle pump gun with a co2 canister(I haven't used it in a while).

This is an excellet paintball package. The gun has been used less that 10 times and less than 3 cases through it. My friends could never see me
:P
200, Go for it?

Also JT goggles | PMI goggles, which is better if i buy this?

Is this everything I need, and how come ebolts cost so damn much?

zagggon 2003-12-17 07:29 AM

Tippman 98 custom pwnz the shit outa all spyders, this is the gun you should buy, if any.

D3V 2003-12-17 12:40 PM

Your such an idiot. Custom isn't worth shit, they are unacurate, they look gay, and they cost twice as much. Gsus, you got a spyder shutter which was the first mistake to being with. You should have gotten a spyder dx, or spyder imagine.

RS, it doesn't matter what goggles you get, just make sure they have anti-fog on them, because if your playing a match and your gear fogs up, your fucked.

`Insolence` 2003-12-17 04:34 PM

98 customs are only 100~ new... they are cheap, and from what I hear, VERY good..

Nice flaming outside the flame forum, also, Tippmans 98 customs are very accurate, they look like a real gun instead of some futuristic nerd gun (spyders), and they are cheap in price. By far the best gun for the best price out there.

`Insolence` 2003-12-17 09:17 PM

Wow, that guy already sold his gun, I am never gonna find a deal like that again -.-

D3V 2003-12-20 02:25 AM

Actually zagggon they are not accurate, they don't look like any real gun that I know of, and spyders are not ... (((((nerd)))) guns, they are professional guns, used by professional, not some newbie paintball wannabe homo who buys into a trend.

98 customs come with a hopper for $180, no mask, tank, nothing.

I got my spyder victor for 119, came with hopper, 9oz tank, mask, saved alotta money, and got a better gun.

Tippman is just like buying namebrand food, or savin' money by buying the store's version of it.

Gsus 2003-12-23 02:06 AM

um, when i bought my shutter those models didnt exist smart one. Either way, i use a black magic now, so meh to you.

Jimbo 2003-12-23 10:50 AM

Well it really does not matter as there is always going to be something better than you have, even if you give your gun the best upgrades their will still be a better gun out there, somewhere...

D3V 2003-12-23 02:22 PM

If your going to get a tippman get an a5 but if not, don't bother with teh custom unless you can get it really really really cheap.

thats what i want to get, is there a gun that uses mags/clips?? i heard they dont make them anymore :-(

D3V 2003-12-24 12:27 AM

Yeah, theres lots and lots of handguns.

Ok, what I recommend is either going to a paintball website that sells alotts stuff like www.xpaintball.com or something, or go to a grocery store and buying a paintball magazine so you can get the idea of what your wanting to get more.

They've got the guns that look like 9mm and have (i think) 7 round clip, and you get the little mini co2 catridges to go with the gun, quite fun to shoot.

J_iceman 2003-12-24 02:32 PM

yeah i went to some place and my buddy was going robocop on some guy, dropping his mags and reloading, it was fun....hey thanks for the link!!

-wmd_apoc- 2003-12-27 08:28 AM

go with a tippman 98 custom

its probaly the most reliable gun out there and it doesnt cost like $500

J_iceman 2003-12-27 10:59 AM

how much is it and how long will it last ??

zagggon 2003-12-27 12:22 PM

It costs like 200$

D3V 2003-12-27 01:45 PM

Or .... You could spend like $230 and get a Tippman A5 which is WAYYYY better than a 98 custom. If your willing to spend the money i'd go with the A5.

You ask how long it will last? Well, forever if you want to put money into it when it breaks. The good thing about paintball guns is you can take em apart and replace old parts for new or better parts.

barrywhite 2004-01-06 08:13 AM

If ya want a real nice gun look into purchasing a stock wgp cocker. Its reliable, and fully customisable. If not the 98c is a great gun. I dont really paintball anymore, but a year or so ago I was sponsored by Shocktech and played for them for about 4 months until I relized that they are dick heads, and I quit paintball.
