Honestly, I'm not sure, I've only tried with Rares, since they are really the best ones to do so with. You are probably right. :)

you can upgrade magical items too ? i thought only uniques and rares can be improved. if yes please tell me the recipe, cause i have some cruel items with a low base dmg and i would really like to upgrade these stuff.

Heh, hey question. Could you remove runes too? If someone shael'd an item and I wanted to remove it. Would the same recipe work?

yeah that recipe would work but you have to remeber that when you take a rune out it loses the bonuses gain by it. so if you take a shael out of a weapon you lose the 20 ias or the faster block rate if taken out of a shield.
