I put Black Sabbath. Pink Floyd and the Eagles are pretty good too.

I couldn't get into the Beatles. I don't like their style.

Areus 2004-05-04 10:28 PM

Definitely Led Zeppelin, queen needs to be up there too.

undeadzombieguy 2004-05-05 03:25 AM

I dont really like any of them, but if I have to choose it would be The Beatles.

:edit: oh damn I totally forgot the rolling stones - painted black that song is fucking awesome ;)

Where's AC/DC? Also, The Beetles are just British. 'nough said.

Can't you read? Also, you're just American.

Oh, and the Beatles are way more than "just British".

The Beatles suck balls. I don't care how many people they influenced or how many records they sold. They were the original "boy band", and as such, they are an insult to all that is good and holy.

I appreciate and respect Zepplin, the Stones and the Eagles, but I could never get into their music.

Floyd, Skynyrd and Sabbath are three of the greatest bands ever concieved.

However, I didn't get into music until I was about 12 or 13, and one of the first bands I was ever introduced to was Guns n' Roses. So, by way of nostalgic memory, I'm going with GNR.

If you had placed Alice Cooper on the list, though, he would have been my immediate first choice. Alice was my introduction to the world of music, and he is simply the greatest musician to have ever existed, in my opinion. Long live the Coop!

Fine. Guns n' Roses.. Still think AC/DC and Motley Crue should be up there.

It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.

They sort of had a R&B Rock sound to them when they first started, but their music changed somewhat throughout their years. Personally, I liked that sound.

IMO, I don't think you should go as far as saying they suck. Everybody won't like the same music, just like there isn't one person that looks exactly the same as another person, and just like there isn't one career that everyone is good at.

You know nothing, but the freaking band names. Although Angus Young is great...Jimmy Page, hands down is the BEST guitarist that ever lived, and will still be the best forever, and with that I'm going with Jim(led)
Jimmy Page owns all.

Raziel 2004-05-07 11:07 PM

My opinion is that they suck. I'm not saying anyone has to agree with me, I'm just stating what I think. I can't listen to the Beatles without wanting to pull my hair out, and in my book, that constitutes "suckage".

NonGayMan 2004-05-08 07:24 AM

Well, in my opinion, they're a way lot better than those bands that just scream into the mic proclaiming that they hate the world and will eventually kill themselves.

Raziel 2004-05-08 11:15 PM

And in my opinion, if that's all you think death metal equates to, you've got a lot to learn.

RoboticSilence 2004-05-08 11:30 PM

Considering Zepplin is my favorite band, I'd have to go with that. If these are you top favorites, NGM, you have good taste.

Yes, these are my top favorites. When I created this thread, I wanted to see what the rest of Zelaron thinks. I like a lot of other bands too, but I didn't want to put them here.

And Raziel, I wasn't talking about death metal. Hell, I've never even heard death metal before, so I won't judge it. Yep, I've got a lot to learn. Sorry.

Raziel 2004-05-09 11:00 PM

Then what kind of music were you talking about?

NonGayMan 2004-05-10 07:55 PM

Now that you've brought it up, isn't "death" metal just music which rages mindless hate against the world? Why don't they just call themselves heavy metal?

badboy 2004-05-10 09:16 PM

I'd have to go with Guns n Roses. They play them all the time at my football games.

Not at all. Read the lyrics to bands like In Flames, Meshuggah, Soilwork, Fear Factory or Dark Tranquility. None of those bands regularly write angry lyrics. A lot of the lyrical content in death metal involves pretty interesting subjects. Fear Factory, for example, writes a lot of music dealing with the effect of technology on humanity. Meshuggah has a lot of songs dealing with human perspective and how our minds and opinions are distorted by everyday banality. In Flames frequently writes about a number of topics, from love to personal conquest.

To label all death metal as being "hateful" is pretty narrow-minded. Granted, there are plenty of death metal bands that write about murder, violence and atrocity. But the best ones rarely do, or if they do, they write it in such a context that the message is deeper than just a story about death.

The term "death metal" describes a style of music, not a style of message. Death metal bands are defined by the music, not the lyrics.

The name might give some parents a wrong interpretation, though. But considering most idiotic kids listen to rap (like chingy and 50 cent), the parents wouldn't necessarily care. Acknowledging that all rap is is how one gangsta is going to pop another gangsta or how many times they can say the N word in one CD, I'm almost positive most parents don't give a damn about what their kids listen to.

You see, I pretty much like all music besides country and rap (RUN DMC and some 80's rap is all right though). The reason I like all these bands is because they're all different. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin were good because none of their songs sounded the same. The Beatles, in my opinion, are somewhat different than Led Zeppelin and metal bands, but this is why I like them. They were very talented and their British accent made their music distinct. Some people will like them, some won't, but it's a fact that a lot of people do enjoy listening to them. (Over 30 #1 singles, around 165 million records sold which is a world record, 75 million people watched them when they were on the Ed Sullivan Show. The list could go on and on.) I know I can't just make you appreciate them, so I'm just going to stop here, but I do have a question. Out of all the Death Metal bands that you've listened to, which one is your favorite and why? I'll try to pick up a CD.
