We're past the hunter-gatherer lifestyle in which we needed to use dogs for multiple survival aspects.

Puppies are alright, but with nintendogs, no one needs a dog.

Besides, even dogs that can't leave little shits all over your floor still need too much care, and are overall boring.

Cats are a lot more cuddly, too. And are a lot less messy. They clean themselves! Who can argue with that?

Dogs can keep your house safe (if they're big enough) and they make great comapnions for single people who sometimes just don't want to deal with the drama of other people. Then there's also the fact that dog owners live longer than cat owners and animal owners, in general, live longer than non-pet owners.

Cats are prissy bitches though. But I still love kitties <3
