The thing about VI is that it is ubiquitous. If you ever need to edit a text file on a Linux system that you did not install, especially over SSH, to not be comfortable with VI is a handicap. I work with embedded systems, and VI has been part of Busybox forever, so it’s a critical skill for my job. I’ve read that distros are moving away from VI as the guaranteed installed editor, but again it’s part of Busybox, and that’s finding its way into even desktop and server distros, so... |
