[15:44] PureRebel: ._.
[15:48] Chruser: What classes are you going to be taking? I'm considering to study computer science as well.
[15:49] Lenny: The ones I'm taking are - Foundations of Computer Science, Formal Aspects of CS, Introduction to Programming/Programming & Data Structues and Computer Systems.
[15:49] Chruser: How math-heavy is your programme?
[15:49] Lenny: FCS and FA are the logic, reasoning and maths behind CS. IP/PDS is the programming side, and CSys is Databases, Networks, Operating Systems, and the like.
[15:50] Lenny: There's not very much "Maths" as such - it's more reasoning and logic, that we do do Binomial, Pascals triangle, Factorial, Combinations + Permutations, Logs, and some other things.
[15:51] Lenny: http://www.dur.ac.uk/cs.internal/undergrad/modules/ Each link takes you to a description of the module,
[15:51] Chruser: I see. I found a pretty nice programme, but it has significantly more emphasis on math and logic than programming aspects per se.
[15:52] Chruser: The Advanced Artificial Intelligence courses seem interesting.
[15:53] Lenny: I can't do those yet. =( Next year I can, though.
[15:54] Lenny: Anyway, I must be off. I want an early night tonight. Speak to you over the weekend, maybe. Toodles!

[15:56] System: D3V has left the chat
[15:57] !King_Amazon!: I haven't learned that yet
[15:57] !King_Amazon!: But it looks similar to MATLAB's fprintf
[15:57] WetWired: Basic C
[15:57] !King_Amazon!: I really just started, I haven't even finished my first chapter
[15:58] WetWired: If you're learning a C language and you haven't covered printf, find a new teacher
[15:58] !King_Amazon!: I started reading about half an hour ago
[15:58] Chruser: printf("%c%c%c%c",83,84,70,85);
[15:59] WetWired: exit(-1);
[15:59] !King_Amazon!: I learned how to make a program to display Hello World, naturally
[15:59] !King_Amazon!: Then I learned about different data types
[15:59] Chruser: 1 goto 1
[16:00] !King_Amazon!: Then I learned about integers and constants and shit
[16:00] !King_Amazon!: now I'm learning about naming conventions
[16:00] !King_Amazon!: I haven't really learned many functions, yet
[16:00] !King_Amazon!: But I do know a good bit of MATLAB, and that's supposed to be similar to C/C++
[16:01] !King_Amazon!: It's actually written in C, I believe
[16:01] !King_Amazon!: or C++
[16:01] System: Goodlookinguy has joined the chat
[16:01] !King_Amazon!: I can't remember
[16:01] !King_Amazon!: Originally in Fortran
[16:01] WetWired: Not that that has anything to do with its scripting language

[16:02] System: WetWired has left the chat
[16:02] !King_Amazon!: MATLAB is interpreted
[16:03] !King_Amazon!: whereas C/C++ is compiled
[16:03] System: PureRebel has left the chat
[16:03] !King_Amazon!: I don't like MATLAB, myself
[16:03] Goodlookinguy: Yup!
[16:03] Chruser: ((lambda (arg) (+ arg 1)) 1336)
[16:04] Chruser: WetWired.
[16:04] !King_Amazon!: cool
[16:04] Chruser: Procure Mirror's Edge from PSN.
[16:04] !King_Amazon!: Unfortunately, all of the programming I seem to be learning is related to solving math/physics/engineering problems and shit
[16:04] !King_Amazon!: Which, while relevant to some of my interests and to my career, is boring
[16:05] Goodlookinguy: If it bores you, you probably weren't meant to be a programmer.
[16:05] !King_Amazon!: I would much rather learn to do fun things.
[16:05] Goodlookinguy: "Fun things"?
[16:06] Goodlookinguy: Everything is fun!
[16:06] !King_Amazon!: I'm not meant to be a programmer, thus I'm majoring in Chemical Engineering
[16:06] !King_Amazon!: However, using C++ to solve math problems is boring
[16:06] !King_Amazon!: Using C++ to make games or viruses or useful tools is fun
[16:07] Goodlookinguy: Viruses? BA! I hate virus creators.
[16:07] !King_Amazon!: You probably weren't meant to be a virus creator, then.
[16:07] Goodlookinguy: You need to understand a bit of mathamatics to be able to create games.
[16:08] Goodlookinguy: Otherwise you'll have to keep guessing how big something will be or how and have problems setting up boundaries properly.
[16:09] !King_Amazon!: I understand mathematics.
[16:09] !King_Amazon!: Not in relation to C++, though.
[16:09] Goodlookinguy: That last sentence was two thoughts accidently crammed into one.
[16:09] Goodlookinguy: Sorry.
[16:10] Goodlookinguy: You should understand it in C and C++ just fine.
[16:10] Goodlookinguy: Mathematics and Programming go hand in hand.
[16:10] Goodlookinguy: Especially with JavaScript I've noticed.
[16:11] Goodlookinguy: I'm out, I'm extremely tired. Afternoon nap, here I come!
[16:11] !King_Amazon!: Well MATLAB is probably more math oriented than C or C++
